For mining, what are the tax implications. Can someone please shed some light?

Let's say if I make $200 per month buying this desktop, then I considering california and federal taxes, I would end up earning even less than $140?

#2:
Also another question, Does applying thermal paste on gpu void the warranty?
Tax implications: when you receive mining payouts (cash or coin), you should self report as income. (It will be taxed as income per the tax bracket you are in). If you choose to hold and cash out later after it appreciates (or depreciates) that amount appreciated is subject to capital gains taxes (short or long term depending on how long you have held.

Hope this helps.

Imagine spending more than 2K on a PC for it to only have 8GB/256GB.

And its not a base model iMac.

Unless you put it in a rental house, and can then convert a portion of the proceeds as passive rental income. There nothing better than renting to noone, and never having to deal with people. Now makes me wonder if you can do the same with a room for rent.

Thank you!

Yes, I really dont see why people would buy this system for mining. Considering mining profits might reduce after few months and considering tax implications, it would be years before making any significant gain.

Rather I would assume probably buying a 3070 system for $1200 (if your intention is gaming purpose) makes more sense.

Am i missing something here? Discussion appreciated Smilie

Wrong thinking. You are buying a 3080, comes with some nice cheap PC parts.

What you said is correct, but to be more precise, You recognize ordinary income and pay ordinary income taxes on cryptocurrency as soon as it is mined. The amount you pay in taxes becomes your tax basis. When you go to exchange your crypto for cash or another coin, you use your tax basis to determine whether or not you have a taxable gain or loss. If it is a gain, that gain is subject to capital gains taxation. If it is a loss, then it is subject to capital gains loss rules.

What are you saying in chat to get this price?
Just say you were wondering if there were any other discounts available for your configuration.

They will reply back saying X price, and then counter, and say, "I was hoping to be closer to $1800 are there any other discounts available? My budget is tight."

Then they will come back and say "They personally reached out and were able to find a few more discounts".
