About this Game:
You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won't be easy. Ever since Joja Corporation came to town, the old ways of life have all but disappeared. The community center, once the town's most vibrant hub of activity, now lies in shambles.

I've wondered about this one for a bit. I've heard it's good for a farming simulator. Something closer to harvest moon? How does it compare with "my time at Portia" (on game pass)?

Put 200+ hours into it on switch. Great game. Never played my time at Portia but it does remind me of Harvest Moon original games.

Ditto @TheDiscourse, it's easy to sink 100+ hours into a single playthrough and is well worth the price of admission. If I remember right, the developer was heavily inspired by the Harvest Moon franchise and tried to fix all of his grievances with the HM series in his own game. For instance, he designed the game to contain end game content so that users could feel rewarded for continued play. I already owned it on Switch, but at this price it's an easy pick up for a second console.

I'm a pretty dedicated gamer and I rarely buy games (or anything, really, hey fellow SDers) at full price. At this point, I've bought Stardew Valley full price for every platform I own (PC, Mac, Xbox, Android). It's amazing. After playing it, I couldn't get into My Time at Portia at all. I even started gardening because of it.
Also great for kids - my daughter has been playing it alongside me since she was 3, and I feel like I've been able to teach her a number of things just from the NPC interactions in this game (for example, even now I still explain what "addiction" is by referencing Pam and Sam). Also great for teaching about relationships, since you can delve deeper into each relationship as you become better friends with the NPCs. We got her Animal Crossing at the start of the pandemic since so many people were recommending it, and she barely plays it because she says it's too simple and shallow compared to Stardew Valley. Highly recommended.
Have it on multiple systems but recently got it for the Switch (digital codes on fleaBay are dirt cheap!!!) and I must say I think the Switch is the best system for it!
Well thanks, all, for all of the input. I decided to snag it. I'm collecting games for when my gamepass membership expires this fall. I think the Microsoft rewards monthly deals on Xbox live are about gone and that conversion to ultimate 2 years ago was amazing. At least I'll have this fun stuff waiting for me!
Fun game. I have owned it on PC since near its original release and enjoyed it then. We own it on Switch too, well worth it. My girlfriend plays it all the time on the Switch. She will buy a new game, play it for a while and then a few days later I see her back playing Stardew.
The developer (started out as one guy, may still just be him) has made consistent updates, from content, QoL to aesthetics. There are a few YouTube videos out there chronicling the dev's journey that are a fun watch, and will probably make you want to buy the game.
This is outside my normal game genres (TW3, Borderlands, What Remains of Edith Finch, Forza: Horizon 4), and the graphics are a little off-putting. But having a long-term game to jump into for a relaxing bit of play sounds pretty nice; FH4 is the closest I have to that now. I've heard enough good things about this game to try it for $9 of MS Rewards credit.
