Baking soda is baking soda. Doesn't matter if it's sold in a little box or 12 pound bag.

But baking powder isn't the same as baking soda. Follow the recipe. Baking is chemistry, versus cooking which is comparable to artistic painting.

I think Costco has 13.5lb for $7.. Equivalent to 52c here. It also comes in a resealable bag, unlike the cardboard box here

Costco bags of baking soda have been a single solid chunk inside the past few times I've been there. You have to chip away at it, rather annoying.

Not really. ...you can use baking powder for baking soda because the powder contains baking soda. But to substitute the soda for the powder you'd have to change the amount of whatever acid that's in your recipe and there's no real ratio that works every time.
