Lenovo has resumed its deals on the X1 Nano. In this case, the 8GB, 256GB storage core i5 model could be had for $950.00, and their 16GB, 1TB model could be had for $1200.00.

1) A lot of engineering applications simply aren't available for Macs. It's dominated by Windows, then Linux.
2) Too many engineers I know live and die by Excel. Add 1) to the equation and you know where they run their spreadsheets.
3) Most engineers wouldn't tolerate Apple's 'my way or the highway' mentality. Not for work and certainly not for personal use.
Fact is, Macs simply aren't taken seriously outside of coding and Starbucks. As someone else here said, I guess it could complement your iPhone, but then that shows how seriously you use your computer.
Is Apple making good computers? Definitely. Would I buy or recommend one? Hell no. Integrated SSDs, glued batteries and crappy keyboards is why I stay away from them from a hardware perspective. And why I love Lenovos. Also, I just don't like MacOS, but others may differ or be indifferent.
Different strokes for different folks. I personally work with virtualized machines and can't use the new M1, so I stick to Windows. But for folks with a Final Cut Pro or Logic workflow, or for Xcode devs, there's a place for them. Even as a lifestyle machine, if you've got an iPhone, having a MacBook to go with it is a nice seamless experience.
Fanboyism in tech needs to go extinct. We can have preferences but being all cutthroat about a product's use seems pointless.

Guess as soon as the 512gb one gets here, I'm turning right around and handing it back to the UPS guy Thanks OP!

I'd say buy a second one with the discount and just return the first once you get it. Lenovo gives you a prepaid UPS label and doesn't hassle you at all about why you're returning it.

Is it 5% off with the student discount? That's what I see on the page. if the $1200 is given a 5% off, it's $60 = $1140 before tax. How did you get it to $1040?

This is what I'm thinking. I lost out on that deal a few days ago but now this is a much better choice. I'm just researching on battery life and it's so so. I'm already using a 3 year old Lenovo that's been great for me but this one doesn't have the USB A ports I need for my astrophotography connections. I do have adapters but that may be too many repeaters/extensions as there is a limit of how many hubs you can connect (I use a 35' usb 3 extension cord). Plus the battery life on the Nano probably isn't as good as the Carbon or the other larger laptops. I need 8 to 10 hours of battery life to be able to image on remote locations without power available.
Yeah. This is what I already do with my Lenovo 720S. I have two USB C external batteries with USB PD and I can do an overnight session out in the mountain or desert from 8pm to almost 6am before light but one external battery along with the laptop will drain. I wanted to switch from my 720S since it has an MX150 dedicated graphics and thought one with an integrated would be longer battery life. I compared and this one is rated at 14 hours while the one I already own is rated 15 hours even with the dedicated card. I may wait a little longer and maybe go for a carbon. This nano is real tiny and it would probably turn heads, but I would be a hypocrit to get this since I criticize people who buy macbooks only to get attention
