I heard if you don't clean the wood chips around the wheel, leak is not too bad.

I keep mine clean (after each use pull off the cover and blow it out with compressor) and have not had any issues of it leaking. Normally has about 50 to 75% oil capacity when going into storage.

Unscrewing the fill cap and releasing the pressure that builds up from the auto oiler will help a lot, but they all leak.... just store on top of something and on it's side.

A great little trim saw that one can use a longer bar on..... I bought this 16" Oregon 27857 [amazon.com] bar and chain on Amazon for $13.73 on sale. Just use the 3C's and set up a notice for when price drops again.

Quiet, you are not irritating the neighbors on a Sunday morning like a gas one does.

Good tips, both the cap and the bar. I'll have to try both.

I recommend a roll of this to help make the leaks easier to deal with: https://www.amazon.com/New-Pig-Un...B004I665XS

Thanks OP, ordered one. Had an ice storm in Oregon recently and it downed a lot of trees and branches that I still need to take care of lol

This is exactly why I bought mine. Cheaper than hiring someone.

So you can use that bar on the Dewalt chainsaw instead of the 12"?

I have had this for a few years and I have done a fair amount of cutting and it works good for a small Saw and it is light. I also have the 60v which is obviously a lot more powerful but I still use this a lot.

At this point I only break out my 50cc chainsaw for the big jobs.

Someone recommended rubber boot trays and that is what I use for multiple saws on the shelf. That pig mat (New Pig 25201) is around $15 at Tractor Supply, but you sometimes have to order it delivered to store.... just make sure to choose the same model number, because it does come in various sizes. Me, I just mostly use rags that I often use later to wipe some oil on whatever to protect from rusting, start fires, etc. For oil spills on the floor, it is oil dry or even cat litter that works pretty good.

Absolutely..... but don't force it, as in abusing the saw with frequent stalling that one can easily do with the 12" .... let the saw do it's job. Sometimes, some people want to use these little saws like they are logging and none will hold up if abused for very long.

I read in another thread of someone purchasing a set of O-rings from local hardware store to fit the cap. I don't believe they mentioned the size, but seems worth a try.

I don't have the saw to confirm (I was one of the Grainger cancellations) but if memory serves, they said there's a divot for the O-ring. Dewalt just didn't include it for whatever reason.

Why would you want a chairsaw that leaks oil all over everything? Buy a Milwaukee, I have one and love it, never leaks a drop of oil.

Where does this leak from? The bar or the cap? My 10yo Husqvarna gas chainsaw leaks from the bar even when not in use, I've just learned to store it on its side to avoid that and it works fine. None of these really are "auto oiling", just designed to slowly leak out and that relies on the viscosity of the oil - get a thinner oil and it's going to leak quicker.
