Real advantage of this is you overfill and the car will burp all of the trapped air out and suck down coolant.
Second this. As an auto tech I use this when bleeding the cooling system. Not very often do cars have bleeder valves near the hoses or heater core so you would run this vehicle with this full until all air has "burped" out and you no longer see bubbles and have constant heat in your car.
This is the exact case where I work, I'm a body tech and like cool tools so I bought a vacuum bleeder and found it works okay but has also given me trouble. I talked to the guys in the mechanical department and all 5 mechanics use the funnel, none of them use a vacuum tool.

What is the advantage of using this? If I spill a little coolant I just hose it off.

Interesting...in my car, there are several "burp holes" along high points in the system that have to be opened progressively (using 3' ratchet extensions) during the refill process, culminating in having to burp the heater core at the highest point. It's a huge PITA regardless of how you fill it.

Typical German simplicity /s

This is usually used after a cooling system repair but some vehicles don't need this if coolant bleeder valves are present. In for three for my shop, thanks OP!

Asked myself the same question 3 yrs ago and I have ended up using mine over 10 times in different cars. definitely one of those tools you end up using more than you think
