The 12 month thing turned out to be poor wording on their part. After 12 months the billing will change to internal via the T-Mobile account, similar to how Netflix On Us works now, instead of being billed via youtube.

Is it for everybody? Of course not. It's it an inexpensive option for most people who want access to live TV? Absolutely.

Downsides are there is no way to save your progress of content you've watched. For example if you've watch 60 percent of a movie or show, and you come back the next day, it won't resume from that point. You'll either have to start from the beginning or fast forward to the previous progress based on your own memory. In both cases you'll have to watch the same amount of ads to get to the previously watched point. Approximately 2 min of ads per every 10-15 min of content skipped.
Second downside is when you DVR a show, it just saves every single season that's out there in the universe. It does not save the newest episodes only. Plus you cannot mark seasons of shows or individual episodes as watched.
Seems like simple things to address for a company as big as youtube, and the demand/frustration is there throughout reddit regarding all the downsides I've mentioned for years, however youtube still hasn't addressed it.

As for the DVR issues, I've never had any. I can start a episode/movie one day, and continue it whenever on any device that's linked to the same profile. I guess I've been lucky if there's so many complaining about those issues.
Biggest weaknesses of YTTV is no 5.1 audio, a DVR that also has on demand and no regional sports channels.
The one big hole is their battle with Sinclair over Regional Sports Networks, that being said we have always had the Sinclair Regional Sports Network during baseball season, so it will be interesting to see if they work something out here in the next week.
What I find silly is that Google can't figure out how to sell more advertising to pay for Regional Sports Networks or lower the cost, instead you get blank screens and 'Moments of Zen from YouTube TV' in spots for local advertising. Guess Google isn't good at selling advertising?
