How is this for just riding around a neighborhood? I know people get pretty serious about these scooters, but are primarily using them as commuters. Anything to watch out for here with this one for a normal sized adult casual rider?

my experience is with bird and the xiaomi m365 only.
the m365 on paper has the same specs but better range as this glx. i live in SF, with a LOT of crazy hills. it was fine for my commute however. good battery life, decent acceleration. i purchased it on sale for around 350$. after 3 months, the brake broke and i had to return it as we went into covid lockdown and i had no more need for the scooter for the time being. i was unable to fix it on my own. customer service was excellent.
also it looks like the glx $149 model has an electronic brake instead of a hand brake ...
the bird scooters are pretty strong, good acceleration, better than the xiaomi. my ride yesterday however did cut out on me while going up a decent sized hill, something my xiaomi had not done to me.
this glx has similar specs to the xiaomi, but it IS refurbished. it's also half that cost at $150~. i'm very tempted to get one anyway regardless of how bad i hear the customer service is, since at this price point, it'll cover my typical bus commute costs after 2 months.
i would not take the xiaomi and the glx on the road i took to work yesterday, as there were more cars, and more uphills. i prefer to usually take the quieter streets around this city.

I have an XR Ultra which is only slightly better than this and it's totally fine for riding in the neighborhood. I would not invest a lot more $ for recreational use.
They are a terrible company. Don't buy from them. Two separate instances with me and my friend. Both bought from them and had separate problems and they out right refused to warranty the purchase. I'm also talking about these problems coming from out of the box. Not from riding it for a few weeks. Had to file a charge back from my credit card company before they decided to help me fix the issue.
I ordered two and received them today. Immediately there are problems.
1) One of the scooters is mint. The other has a control panel that looks like it's been through a war zone. It's cosmetic damage only, but still. But it's refurbished, so okay.
2) Both scooters arrived charged and when plugged in go green on the charger confirming it.
2a) One scooter only powers on when plugged in. As soon as the power cord is removed it turns off. The battery is DOA. Removing and replacing the console didn't help.
2b) The second scooter works but immediately jumps to 2/4 bars battery when running. Seems this battery is on its way out too.

Oof. Mine are due Friday I'll try to update then. Really glad I snagged the 2 year extended protection though.

I've sent them an email and will follow up with a chargeback if they don't reply. Worst case is I get two free scooter chassis and need to build some batteries.
I hope yours are better, looking forward to your feedback
I've purchased refurbished directly from Gotrax and they DO NOT REFURBISH anything, I'd be surprised if they even inspect the scooters. I recieved mine with a broken battery connector, which made the scooter suddenly stop at top speed, nearly bit it. Then it just stopped working. The brakes disk was warped, screw parts that hold handle bar broken, and forget about battery life. Incidentally I've purchased other refurbished scooters and one thing that is common is that you will not get the battery nor speed as a new one since refurbished batteries are pretty much drained out.... I would NOT recommend going refurbished with any electric scooter, but especially NOT WITH GOTRAX. I've gone through and tested 12 scooters of those 12, 2 were refurbished. The scooters were priced from $150 to $500 and the common thread is if you want a good scooter you have to pay 500 and above. OR buy swag tron as a good compromise between cost and quality.
