Only the Platinum card. Also this is in-house cell phone insurance by Amex, Visa and Mastercard's cell phone insurance is administered 3rd party and they are a pain to deal with
To get coverage:
You must charge your monthly Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone bill to your Eligible Card Account. You are eligible for coverage the first day of the calendar month following the payment of your Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone bill using your Eligible Card Account. If you pay an Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone bill with your Eligible Card Account and fail to pay a subsequent bill using your Eligible Card Account in a particular month, your coverage period changes as follows:
Seems to be AIG subsidiary, "Coverage is provided by New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG Company."

My bank offers a 600 dollar cellphone protection thing too. I guess it's getting pretty popular to pull people in.
also it says you have to pay your bill with it. you will lose your 10 dollar discount for auto pay won't you for using your credit card instead of bank account/debt?
i use a credit card for my autopay and i still get the discount. been doing this for years now
Yes, I just want to know what insurance companies value older phones at.
It all depends on them. I am not sure in lost cases. But, if it stops working then it's the repair quotation minus the applicable deduction would be the value you'd get back.
What documents did the need ? Other than the estimate and the screenshot of your phone bill with the phone being listed. I'm going to get my phone screen fixed and have been paying my T mobile bill with chase freedom flex. Thanks
Just the estimate, a PDF of your bill (it doesnt have to show the phone on it at all...just a bill showing the $ amount that was paid using the Chase card last month), and filled out form that they send you.
You can fix the phone before they approve it, submit the forms, and they will pay it back later. However, I didnt trust that, so I waited until i got the estimate and THEN i started the claim.
Payment was pretty drama free...got the check about two weeks later, for the exact amount of the quote, minus the $50 deductible.
Like with car insurance claims, you can usually ask the shop to inflate the estimate with an optional repair so that at the end, the $50 is covered.
In reference to the other poster...yes, you can claim a phone that you bought off of ebay or swappa which is already broken...however, there is no guarantee that they wont ask for the receipt. I claimed my Note 8, which I bought legitimately from Costco, and they never asked for the receipt. The TOS dont emphasize that you need a purchase a receipt for the claim itself. But it doesnt say that your phone needs to have been purchased from your phone provider...which would automatically discount purchases from Amazon, B&H, or anywhere else where we bought the handset outright.
Last year I looked at the terms on the Wells Fargo CC regarding cell phones and it says only physical damage to the phone is covered. It specifically excludes any coverage for electronics failures or bad (bulging) batteries. So WF's coverage is only useful if you break your phone by dropping it. I suppose if one has an electronics failure one could always "accidentally" smash it on the ground. In a sane world, I would've expected their coverage to be the opposite (i.e. for electronics/batteries failures and not rewarding people for dropping it).
I'm sure the Amex Blue Cash Everyday is excluded from any phone coverage because it's pretty much always excluded from anything good.
Then get rid of the blue cash and get the other cards instead, why you still have it???
American Express is the opposite of robinhood... they takes from the poor and give to the rich.
Their free cards lost extended warranty, buyer protection, and other things last year... and now you tell me they increased benefits to the top paying customers. I no longer use AMEX for my large purchases since it lacks extended warranty and buyer protection.
so this wont work on "leased" phones that you're making payments on thru your bill?
My guess on this one is that you are not leasing. You have bought the phone and are still on the hook with the carrier if something happens to it. Just my 1 cent.
Then get rid of the blue cash and get the other cards instead, why you still have it???
Because Blue Cash is (I think) the only Amex card without a yearly fee, but clearly it's excluded from many offers these days. I could probably get rid of it completely and not miss it since the extended warranty is gone and I almost never get any good offers (in prior years I used to get good Best Buy offers every November... not any more).
my son dropped his phone last week, the screen is damaged, it is dim and has some rainbow strips. I have personal platinum AX. I am going to switch the monthly payment due around 12th each month to my AMEX platinum card. do I have wait to May 1st to claim the coverage or we can claim it right after the payment? Thanks
They will ask you when the damage occurred. If you try to claim the damage by lying about when it happened, you will be committing insurance fraud.
When you say leased does it mean if we finance the fones like monthly installment or what att or tmo called EIP then you cannot? So only outright purchases at full retail?
Financed phones are not the same as leased phones.
Financed phones are phones you purchase on a loan and pay off over time.
Leased phones are phones you pay to use for a set period of time, but you do not automatically become the owner of the phone after the lease period. Example: T-Mobile Jump on Demand
Let me get this straight. I paid my tmobile bill on 3/29. Does that mean I'm eligible for now for phone insurance? If so this is perfect timing as I just shattered my screen this morning walking the dog!
