I don't own it, but it is definitely too tall if you want your robovac to be able to go under cabinets, many tables and beds.

Roborock's naming convention is screwed up. They tried to stick to a series/family name, but the end result is confusing as a lower numbered bot may be an upgrade and newer release than a higher number bot.

S4 Max is a newer bot than S5. It doesn't have mopping, but has newer CPU for multi-floor mapping and also seems to give slightly better results for vacuuming based on how its suction is setup.

S4 and S5 are older bots with older CPU. S4 is vacuum only and S5 is vacuum+mopping, though mopping is pretty useless as you mentioned.

S6, S4 Max and S5 Max were next series bots with upgraded CPUs, which support multi floor mapping. S4 Max is vacuum only (S4 series), S6 seems to be marginal upgrade over S5 with the upgraded CPU but rest mostly similar, and S5 Max has the CPU upgrades and slight mopping upgrades (with much bigger water tank, electronic water flow control). Of these, S5 Max cost the most as it should be based on features, and was released after S5 infact.

Then S6 pure and S6 MaxV came. S6 pure is same as S6 with some minor items downgraded to reduce cost and price. S6 MaxV added Camera for object recognition + mopping features of S5 Max + higher suction motor.

Finally, S7 was just announced, with vibrating mop (so as to agitate against the floor and offer better mop cleaning in one pass), raising mop for going over carpet, etc. It doesnt have Camera AI of S6 MaxV and is cheaper than S6 MaxV. It is supposed to have an auto-empty bin attachment coming after summers.

I would recommend checking out the comparison videos b/w Roborock models from "Vacuum Wars" on youtube if you are trying to decide.
S4 MAX actually has the same allwinner R16 CPU as the original S5. The vacuum wars guy doesn't have the correct info. The only reason it was slower is because it used an older algorithm and he never tested it once updated. Fun fact: The older models have bigger ram chips and flash storage.

S4 (T4) is based on the original 2016 Mi robot Vacuum (also same CPU) while the S5 (S50) is the premise for everything that came after it. The S6 (T6) is an updated version of the S5/S50 with more sensors, but the basic PCB design and motor layout is the same.

The "S6" isn't part of the same series of robots as the S4 MAX, S6 Pure and S5 MAX which are the newer P5 platform with modifications, but the older S5 and S4 do support multi floor mapping now. S6 obviously had it a lot earlier as it was more of a flagship model at the time.

S5 MAX does not have CPU upgrades, but rather extra features tacked on. In reality its a hybrid of P5 electronics/sensors + the Chinese T7 model mopping features.

S6 Pure (P5) isn't the same or similar as the S6 (T6). People keep spewing out this but they're wrong.. the internal design is way different. Even the chassis sits higher on the P5.

S6 MAX V is a rebranded T7 PRO with worse features such as a slower charger and downgraded floor mat. The regular T7 was never sold outside of china, but we got the S5 MAX which is a "lower end" version. T7 has various upgrades relatively sensor wise and a stronger motor.

I agree the naming scheme is really messed up.

P5 (Entry model):
S6 Pure (Different top plate, otherwise the same robot and features at a higher cost vs Chinese model)
S4 MAX (Removed mopping attachment)
S5 MAX (Has T7 water tank and extra features)

T7:
Never sold outside of China

T7 PRO:
S6 MAX V (Downgraded slow charger, cheaper floor mat)

T7S:
S7 (Downgraded slow charger)

T7S PLUS:
T7S but has camera like T7 Pro, not announced globally.

Chinese models have 3 prong bristle side brush (Better IMO, trade for durability), Global models have 5 prong rubber brush.

The charger difference likely comes down to wear and longevity for battery (they do not sell replacements), though they do sell the S6 with premium faster charger globally.

S6 (Non pure) is close to the Chinese T6. Rubber side brush is only change.

You know your stuff. For just vacuuming, is there any reason to upgrade from the S5 to the S4 Max?

It sounds like the S6 MaxV and the S7 have some significant vacuum upgrades over S5 and S4 Max. Correct? Is there anything similar to S6 MaxV and S7 models in terms of vacuuming prowess but without the useless mopping features?

S4 max was recently introduced (sep 2020). The version moniker really throws people off guard. S6 lineup is a vacuum and a mop.

We're using the S4 max for our hardwood floors and with our dog and it works really well. We've noticed that when it transitions onto area rugs, the suction does go down a bit on carpet.

The only real complaint we have is that we have to empty the darn bin after each cycle. The S7 is around the corner, with the large bins.

err it depends on your needs. In your situation, its more wise to upgrade to the newer DuPont main brush (more bristles) with removable ends and replace the filter if you haven't already (OEM preferred). The S6/S5 are solid performers IMO. The only thing you might need to replace later on is the battery due to charge cycles (cant really recommend anything sorry).

Also swap out the side brush for the newer rubber or try to source the original OEM tri brush from a Chinese site.

I wouldn't say the MAX V and S7 are a significant upgrade (suction wise), but they will suck up fine particles better such as dirt/dust. As for mopping, the pressure oriented S6 MAX V and S5 MAX does do better, but its nothing to write home about... I haven't used the S7, so I cant comment on that one.

My 2C. I'd wait for prices to drop significantly.

Pre order price for T7S (S7) in china is only 2500 Yuan. (equal to 382 USD currently.. 2999 yuan or $458 off pre order) You can argue import taxes and fees, but other companies also abide to this and have a more linear/logical pricing.. Warranty is also longer on these premium models FYI.. 2 year domestically.

I consider P5 entry because the model carries 1 year support in mainland china. Every other model was supported by manufacturer for 2 years.

The only real benefit is that the P5 stuff will likely be supported longer... Stuff like the S6/T6 is mass discounted in Chinese markets... 1999 yuan or 305 USD currently

What I meant about the S6 MaxV and S7 being better than the S5 is the mapping and object avoidance technologies. One of my rooms is a real challenge for any robot vacuum and it seems like these are much better at navigating.

The suction power of the S5 is not bad for me.

Based on what you said earlier, the S5 should be able to use multiple floor maps now?

I don't know if the S7 (T7S) is really "better". I mean it likely is, but the question is "how much".

The Chinese base "T7" for example has an upgraded algorithm (vs rest of line) but its still based on the same R16 A7 processor that every other Roborock "S" robot uses. I can confirm that the S6 MAX V (T7 PRO) actually has a fully upgraded CPU setup (8 core qualcomm APQ8053) and object avoidance is a lot better due to camera. I would assume The T7S PLUS (unreleased globally) model will share internals with S6 MAX V.

Yes, the current version of S5 should allow multi map. Should really be "identical" to the original S6 aside from specific changes such as sound suppression, extra floor sensors, tank sensor, etc.. Like I said both of these are close or closer than what the P5 is to the S5/S50 and S6/T6.

1st, would you recommend to have mop n vacuum in two different machines instead of one?

2ndly, my wife n daughter got long hair and it is all over the places. Have anyone owned one with rubber brush? I heard its much easier to remove long human hair

Any recommended model? Both of my floors are either tiles or vinyl
Thanks

The build quality of these vacuums is suspect. I have a new s5 max and it's already gone back to "repair" only after the amazon return window ended. Took 3 weeks turn around and the issue isn't fixed. Bought it on a slick deal and will likely just run it until it breaks or my extended warranty kicks in so roborock isn't the one "fixing" it.

I did get a nice email from roborock repairs apologizing they didn't fix the issue (they didn't even test it) and I provided them with YouTube vids on my actual vacuum, the issue, and how to reproduce the issue.

Their solution in the end was to send it again to them, for another 3 weeks and their technician will pay more attention and take a "closer" look at the issue.

Disappointing for a $500 vacuum.... oh and by the way, as suspected when I sent it out, it was pretty much in new condition and when I got it back all the panels were mucked and scratched up. So it looks like I need to call Law and Order: Robot SVU.

Is this the one that avoids dog poop? I get so confused by their model numbers.
