How does this stack up against a Ryzen 5800X in gaming specific usage?

Ryzen 7 5800X ≈ Core i9-10900K

The Core i9-10850K is a 100 Mhz lower clocked Core i9-10900K so the Core i9-10850K is slightly worse than Ryzen 7 5800X.

Good deal at MC for both the 5800x and the 10850k but I'm holding off to see what Alder Lake has to offer, esp. since z490 is EOL.

Looks like newegg has a $5 promo code running right now so $375. BH had it at $338 a month or two ago so sad face that hasnt come back anywhere. I'd still wait til Alder Lake and AM5 are out if you already have a working pc.

Prices are kinda crazy now. The cheapest decent mobo for 10850K I'd consider is the MSI Z490-A Pro currently on sale on Newegg for $170. Anything cheaper than that is trash. If you need WiFi, which the A Pro doesn't have, $15 more will get you the MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE WIFI for $185.

If you are looking for an advanced motherboard with good onboard sound and all the overclocking and troubleshooting features you'll ever need, I'd choose between the ASUS Z490-E GAMING (Adorama) or the MSI MEG Z490 UNIFY (Newegg, Amazon). I have both and both are great motherboards that do 90%+ of what boards priced twice as much can do.

Sadly, they both now sell for full MSRP of $300. (I snagged the E Gaming for $225 last Christmas but under current worldwide chip shortages that price isn't coming back anytime soon.) If you want more bling on your mobo, pick the Asus since the Unify comes with no onboard RGB (just an all-black board with white LEDs - classy to some, boring to others). Also, the Unify doesn't have a power phase for the integrated graphics, so you have to have a GPU to be able to use your computer. Instead, the Unify concentrates on providing all the power to the CPU. Its power design, 16+1 phases with 90A Smart Power Stages, can push your 10850K/10900K to its absolute limits provided adequate cooling. I was able to get 5.3GHz on 3 cores stable on my 10850K without overwhelming my cooling system and with the VRM's sitting at a chill 50 degrees. The Unify also has an advantage in memory overclocking. If you want a beginner-friendly, no-fuss overclocking experience, choose the Asus. Their AI overclocking software with 5-way optimization will do all the work for you with just a click of a button.

According to almost every reviewer out there, the 10th Gen 10-core Core i9 CPUs outperform the newer Intel 11th Gen 8-core Core i9 CPUs, while being about half the price.

I'm not sure whether Intel users should be happy about the deal, or embarrassed for the company.

A little bit of both, I guess.

Most Intel users will be content with the 10850K so they won't feel like Intel completely left them hanging. Considering current prices on 11th gen and what AMD has to offer for under $400, the 10850K seems to be the sweet spot these days. This 10-core 5.2GHz chip will stay relevant for the next 2-3 years as a good all-purpose home PC CPU.

It's the Intel HEDT platform users who must be feeling abandoned and forgotten by Intel. They are left with just having to hang on to their X299 systems for at least another year or year and a half and watching how AMD's $800 16-core 5950X takes their 18-core $2K CPU's to school.

Not only is the 11th gen I-9 overpriced but also the overall platform cost has gone up since Z590 motherboards come with MSRPs $50-$100 more than their Z490 counterparts. They are better boards but not THAT MUCH better and there isn't much they can do to compensate for 11900K's underwhelming performance. Why anyone would buy an 11900K is beyond me. Except, perhaps, in a pre-built with a 30 series GPU.

I went with a 10850k and I've got it overclocked to 5.1 all cores; 5.4 @ 4 cores. They are a slightly-lower binned 10900k (100mhz), but you can easily overclock, in Windows, with Intel's OC utility. It works great, is easy, and allows you to make different profiles: lower clock speed if mining, higher if gaming, etc. I would highly recommend the i9 if you want to game now; unless you want 300fps in CounterStrike, none of these new mid-high end processors are going to be the bottleneck. You won't go over 50% CPU usage in CyberPunk - with max everything on a 3090. ***Also - the 10th Gen I9's (the 10850k and 10900k) are actually FASTER in gaming then the 11th gen 11900k! That's right, the new processors are slower in gaming!!? I would recommend picking up a 10th gen I9 ... before they're gone.

Ya but about 80% of america doesn't live within ~100 or more miles of a microcenter so those deals are useless for that portion. This was also $338 at BH for a day or so but nothing like that came back at other online retailers so best to wait for alder lake or am5 later this year since its already April. Cant reliably get a good gpu either.
