Below is an excerpt of the email that I received. Basically, if you don't pay $10 to get the Premium SIM to switch to a pathetic free plan (10 minutes, 10 texts, 25MB data) by May 1, they'll automatically switch your account to a $3.99 monthly plan and charge the credit card on file. I received this message even though I haven't used my free account in over a year. To cancel, call customer service at 888-702-8302. Very shady business practice to begin charging customers and I question the legality of it. Regardless, consider saving yourself a potential hassle and cancel your account

Can I use my top-up credits to pay the New 350mb $3.99 monthly plan? or will it charge from my credit card.
I contacted FP about it. They said they will transfer Top up to new sim as credit balance but don't know how it can be used..??? Stay away from FP. For porting out FP number, use 1XXXXXXX (your phone number) and 9999 as pin.
Just cancelled my account (online through the legacy website). Haven't used it in years, but saw the email that they would charge 3.99. Cancelling is easy, no hassle and within a few min, the billing/plan sections update to show you have no plan.
I signed up in Nov 2016, last used Nov 2017 as service was degrading for me. Stopped using devices/sims for nearly 3.5 years. Woke up to 2x $3.99 charges today, never got notification, probably because spam mail account expired.
PayPal refused to reject the charges saying I had set up recurring billing for them. I couldn't even log into FreedomPop site, said email was invalid even with password recovery attempt. Finally found an alternate site to log in with and then it showed I had no phone numbers associated and both phone/sims marked inactive due to dormancy and to click a button if I wanted to bring them back. So how could they charge me for something I wasn't using and couldn't use.
I submitted a complaint on their site now (as well as an email earlier that hadn't been answered). Waiting to click cancel because I don't want that to lock me from the account entirely preventing communications with them or cause a change the current state that shows they're inaccessible/inactive anyway,
got hit with 3.99 on 5/3 which is my usual billing date. have few other accs still on free plan, i hope they will also get hit on the billing dates, most of my accs have some invalid cards, so just leaving them as is, to see what happens.
though 3.99 plan says 350mb, usage tab shows 600mb available (550mb + 50mb friend bonus) not sure if there is any extra bonus offers.
I wonder if locking my credit would prevent them from charging me. Do they appear as recurring charges? I was last charged for top-up over a year ago.
It didn't work! Weird thing was they charged me with a few hours left before renewal. So I decided to cancel and filed a dispute with the credit card company. We'll see what's going to happen. I took screenshots of the canceling process.
I was charged today. I don't even think they had my current credit card number. When I log into the account it doesn't even show I have a service. This is complete fraud. I filed it as a fraudulent transaction and requested a new credit card.

Total scammy move on their part.
