for the last time, mulches are sourced regionally even the bagged kind. Lowes, HD, etc get it from the same processor that "by the yard" use. If in your region construction debris is used, then you odds are very high you will run into it at any source
Ha, I say that about Home Depot. I much prefer Lowe's. But that's because our local Home Depot seems to be from 1972 and the Lowe's is much newer.
I get that, but the price is so much higher for bulk delivered mulch.

1 yard = 27 cu. ft = approx. 14 bags
14 bags with this deal = $28
1 yard bulk delivered = $55

I can get it down to $46/yard if I order 4 yards but that's still way more expensive, and how long will that pile be blocking my driveway?

I bought a couple bags of Vigoro from HD and the premium mulch at Lowes....It's not that different. I don't think you will see much difference between the two.For the same price on both, just flip a coin.
Noticed Lowe's is half the weight of HD

So I purchased the Scott's colorstay from TS deal, vigoro from HD and the Scott's earthgro from HD. I know it will vary regionally but here is what I found in NY.

Scott's colorstay- nice rich black color and no barn smell, actually smells good like wood chips. Been laying out in the sun and rain for a week and no fading. Size of pieces is pretty uniform. No random junk found.

Vigoro- more faded black to brown than Scott's colorstay. The smell is strong with this one, been laid out for a few days and it's slightly fading but still not pleasant. Size of pieces is all over the place with some large pieces to fine shreds. No random junk found.

Scott's earthgro- color is somewhere between Scott's color stay and vigoro. The smell is more chemical than a barn. The size of pieces here is mostly fine shreds. No junk found.

If I could choose one, I would go with the Scott's colorstay from TS. But since it's not on sale anymore, I'll be going with a local nursery and pray for the best.

Price is so much for bulk delivered mulch if you compare to local pick up at city compost site.

Buy online for pickup. I called when I got there and They came and loaded right into my car.
I like to load it myself. The guys they send out seem to hate their jobs. The work is sloppy and unorganized. Like they aren't trying to maximize space.

Just picked up a freezer from target and ran into the same issue. Measured it all in advance. Because of covid I'm not suppose to help. So I hear them talking with each other on how best to put the freezer in. They lift it up, stare for a few minutes and then put it back down. This repeats again. Finally they keep it upright and place it on the edge of my vehicle. Then they start debating what to do next. I yell for them to just push it in. So they try it. Amazed that it fit right in. As if I had already measured the space needed before arriving. Their eyes apparently told them it wouldn't fit. They might want to get a tape measure while they wait to get their eyes recalibrated.

I'm sorry I just have little patience for these people and I'm worried about them possible damaging my vehicle with there sloppy loading. Maybe you guys have better luck with this. Surprising the best loading experience I had was from Best Buy. They had their tape measures out. Came in with a good plan and just put it to work.

Worst was Meijer. They told the bagger to go load my mulch. We went outside to the mulch and he just looked at it. I think he was about to cry. I told him to just stand there and I'll get myself loaded. The bags really weren't heavy.

Finally...
Can I buy online and get them loaded after showing proof of purchase or do I need to get inside the store?
Are you afraid that if you step into the store you'll end up walking out with hundreds of dollars worth of other stuff when all you wanted was a $2 bag of mulch? Wink

Lessons Learned:
+ highly recommend going to harbor freight and buying a scooping shovel $10.
+ use your greenwaste bin as a wheelbarrow (~0.5 cu yds). It holds more than your typical barrow (6cu ft). Reducing # of trips will be helpful. Tip bin over, shove it in.
+ Pop up canopy to shade you as you work.
+ Wear a dust mask.
Pitchfork is the only thing I use. I get 14 yrds every other year and have to use a wheelbarrow they wont drive in the back of lot. If i had a truck I could be done in under a day by driving But 2 to 2 1/2 days pushing wheelbarrow to the verr back of property then the the other side and then to the front lol. I use bags for my home easier and 20 to 25 does it
