To my compressor people: When you drain the compressor, is it ever normal for the water that comes out to be discolored, or should it always be clear? Does discolored water automatically mean the interior is rusted?

All steel tanked compressors rust from the inside out. Should've got aluminum.

I don't have one; I'm looking to buy one. If I test a used one, then drain it and the water which comes out is discolored, does that necessarily mean that it hasn't been maintained? Should I run, or is some discoloration normal?

Totally normal. The tank interior is bare steel and unfinished. If properly maintained and not abused, it will outlast you.

The noise should be the #1 consideration for any compressor. Noise more than 65db should not be considered.

Can't think of a time when I didn't run a saw concurrently with my compressor, so I'm always wearing hearing protection anyway.
