home depot I imagine has some good counertops as well
You can purchase a 48"x25" unfinished solid birch countertop for about $99 or a 72"x25" for $119. I suggest going this route as it's inexpensive, can be cut to size, is solid, and can be finished however you want.

Here's a link a direct link to the 6ft counter top, you can select the 4ft if you want smaller. I just finished building my desk with both the 6ft and 4ft sections using the L shaped Workstream legs from Monoprice. So far no complaints. The countertop pieces are solid and heavy but give a nice rigidity to the desk.

Check Facebook marketplace, I found a few outlet resellers who were selling butcher blocks for half the price
Mono price has some decent options. I bought the white/grey for my employees and the big black one for me.

How hard do you think it would be to add a tabletop for someone who is not handy at all? Does the stand come with screws? Would screws be needed even?
