FYI the pixel 3 has no guaranteed software or security updates beyond October of this year
I currently have a Note 20 Ultra and a Pixel 4a 5g as my "backup" phone. As hard as it may be to believe the Pixel wipes the floor with the Note for point and shoot photos. The pixel is almost always better in every scenario except for two:. 1. Any telephoto shots past 2X and 2. Taking photos while shooting video. For basic grab your phone and take a shot day or night, the pixel is better.

Let me know what you find out. I'm really curious as I don't want to pay for shipping either. I just checked mine and its warranty expires on June 8th 2021
Quote from hundrednaire :
Checked mine on google site, it shows the warranty ends on oct.5, 2021, about 6 months. Let us know what woot has to say about this.
FYI, After multiple emails, Woot has acknowledged the problem and the options they originally offered were:
1. A replacement (non feasible, as the vendor is now OOS)
2. A partial refund (a non negotiable amount, which may be YMMV, depending on remaining warranty)
3. At their expense, a prepaid UPS return label has already been generated, and a full refund upon return.
I'm not revealing their exact offer but it's around 20%. I'm mulling my options. I've had problems with my current Pixel 3 that required multiple under-warranty replacements, so I value the one year original terms. My phone remains unopened (and ready for returning) but I'd really like to keep it....except for that damn short warranty.

If you want to keep it, you might want to doublecheck the warranty again through Google. I checked mine this last weekend and it was showing June 2021. Today, I checked again and it's showing April 2022.

Have you set-up the phone yet? I wonder if doing so causes Google to set a minimum 1 year warranty for the phone the first time the phone is setup?

No, many other people on this thread have activated their phone and discovered the short warranty period. I'm beginning to think that PhNguyen is joking about his phone's warranty. No one else has confirmed his comment and my still sealed box's end date has not changed. I like my old Pixel 3 BUT about to return this one, just need one more day to think about it.

I can confirm that my warranty period has changed to one year. It was initially showing only a few months.

I have unlocked the bootloader; gone through the setup; and updated Android. I have not yet installed a SIM card.

Good news!!!!

That's great to hear, I'm wondering what's going on? Could you supply some details: When did you first check and how many days did it take for the warranty to update? Did the warranty change before you updated Android or could that have triggered some action. Any other thoughts?

Sorry, but I do not have many details. I received the phone about a week ago and immediately checked the warranty status. At the end of last week, I charged it up; unlocked the bootloader; gone through the setup; and updated Android. I just rechecked the warranty and saw it updated to one year.

I am just as surprised as anyone. I do not know which was the critical step.

For your reference, I received the phone last Friday, activated it on Saturday and performed all updates on the phone. I checked the warranty information on Saturday after activating the phone and during the updates, it showed June 2021. I checked again Monday morning and it was updated to the one year.

So strange, but I decided to keep my phone for now and hope for the best. Opened the box and did the updates overnight. Using my old phone for now, I can return the new phone if I change my mind. Thanks for the time frame. My warranty end date shows 6/29/2021 (still). I'm going to buy a magnetic charging cord like this [amazon.com] just so I can avoid another recurring problem.

To save you time, guys

Warranty check: https://store.google.com/repair

Phone is SIM-unlocked from the box (will work with any carrier), but bootloader-locked (only allows OTA updates from Google). Do bootloader unlock only if you really need it (you plan to install 3rd party firmware and you know what you're doing)

How to unlock bootloader (may void warranty, do on your own risk, bla-bla):
  1. remove sim (!!!) if you ran it before with the sim inside - remove sim and do factory reset TWICE
  2. connect to wifi
  3. let it download the update
  4. DONT INSTALL UPDATE
  5. go to About Phone -> Build Version. Click it 10 times until it tells you're the Developer now
  6. go to Developer menu
  7. wait until the OEM unlock option becomes clickable (happens after system update is downloaded, but NOT installed)
  8. toggle OEM unlock (result: should be enabled)
  9. Enable USB debug on the phone (also Developer menu)
  10. connect the device to your win/mac/linux machine with adb installed with USB cable with data pins. Phone will ask if you authorize your PC to USB debug it
  11. from your PC run : "adb reboot bootloader". That will reboot your phone to bootloader with message and status "locked"
  12. from your PC while your phone is in fastboot mode: "fastboot flashing unlock" (that should respond with
    OKAY [ 0.356s]
    Finished. Total time: 0.368s)
  13. You're good now. It's bootloader unlocked. you can install any updates. It will not lock itself and can install any other 3rd party firmware (on your risk, sure)
  14. That's fine that every phone load it will remind you that bootloader is unlocked - this splash screen will dissapear after 3-5 seconds during boot.

Mine also has a warranty until 7 June 2021, something to talk about with Woot https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...s/emot-LOL.gif
I followed these steps. They worked for me on the Pixel 3 from eBay. My IMEI starts with 35**. When I first turned on the phone I already had the installed sim card removed. I could see that the OEM unlock was not greyed out like it is on my current Pixel 2 from Verizon.

My warranty hasn't changed since activation about 7 days ago; still shows late June 2021. I also think it seems as though the battery has degraded while warehoused. BTW, it was fully depleted upon arrival.

What steps did you take so far? What do you mean by "activation"?

I powered up my phone for the initial time and had my T-mobile SIM card in it. I think some people just got lucky and their phone somehow qualified for a revised warranty. Really makes no sense but Google seems powerless to adjust it. Somethings just happen.
Edit: I first loaded all the updates over WiFi and then installed my SIM.
