FYI the pixel 3 has no guaranteed software or security updates beyond October of this year
I currently have a Note 20 Ultra and a Pixel 4a 5g as my "backup" phone. As hard as it may be to believe the Pixel wipes the floor with the Note for point and shoot photos. The pixel is almost always better in every scenario except for two:. 1. Any telephoto shots past 2X and 2. Taking photos while shooting video. For basic grab your phone and take a shot day or night, the pixel is better.

Since you're knowledgeable on this topic, can you share a link which documents how this procedure works on the Verizon Pixel 3? Attempting to google for this has not yielded any results. It seems like a major development and it would add a lot of value for people stuck with Verizon devices.
I would like this info too because apparently this person is the only person on the internet that knows how to actually unlock the bootloader on a Verizon Pixel 3 device.

I got the phone today and just called Google to check on warranty info. The response was underwhelming: good through June 2021. Even though these are new, unopened, factory sealed boxes the IMEI# indicates it was activated the previous June. Doesn't sound too good, considering my options.
Good idea. The Woot sales web page says that it is covered by 1 Year Manufacturer Warranty. Sorry that you have to deal with this. I'll be checking my phone upon arrival.

How do you check the activation time? I also got mine yesterday.

To save you time, guys

Warranty check: https://store.google.com/repair

Phone is SIM-unlocked from the box (will work with any carrier), but bootloader-locked (only allows OTA updates from Google). Do bootloader unlock only if you really need it (you plan to install 3rd party firmware and you know what you're doing)

How to unlock bootloader (may void warranty, do on your own risk, bla-bla):
  1. remove sim (!!!) if you ran it before with the sim inside - remove sim and do factory reset TWICE
  2. connect to wifi
  3. let it download the update
  4. DONT INSTALL UPDATE
  5. go to About Phone -> Build Version. Click it 10 times until it tells you're the Developer now
  6. go to Developer menu
  7. wait until the OEM unlock option becomes clickable (happens after system update is downloaded, but NOT installed)
  8. toggle OEM unlock (result: should be enabled)
  9. Enable USB debug on the phone (also Developer menu)
  10. connect the device to your win/mac/linux machine with adb installed with USB cable with data pins. Phone will ask if you authorize your PC to USB debug it
  11. from your PC run : "adb reboot bootloader". That will reboot your phone to bootloader with message and status "locked"
  12. from your PC while your phone is in fastboot mode: "fastboot flashing unlock" (that should respond with
    OKAY [ 0.356s]
    Finished. Total time: 0.368s)
  13. You're good now. It's bootloader unlocked. you can install any updates. It will not lock itself and can install any other 3rd party firmware (on your risk, sure)
  14. That's fine that every phone load it will remind you that bootloader is unlocked - this splash screen will dissapear after 3-5 seconds during boot.

Mine also has a warranty until 7 June 2021, something to talk about with Woot laugh out loud

The problem is #7 "wait until the OEM unlock option becomes clickable." That will never be clickable on a Verizon version of this phone (IMEI starting with 35) no matter how many factory resets you do .

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm pretty positive about that.

*edit: I appear to be proven wrong. yay!

That's how I got my Verizon pixel3 unlocked from Woot from this deal. Letting it go to internet (wifi) and download the update without install did the trick for me. My IMEI is 35*
No ESIM btw Frown

Thank you!
This method works for my woot pixel3 with IMEI 35* too.
Just paused the update installation when it continued to install after download.
The oem unlock option became clickable.
Finally own a Verizon pixel phone.

Interesting, I'm glad to hear I seem to be wrong. Do you have any idea if this is possible if your device is already completely updated? I have a Verizon Pixel 3 I bought for my daughter a month or so ago. It's fully updated and she's been using it. I don't really want to wipe and factory reset to try it if it's not possible.

My box remains factory sealed, I only read the IMEI on the box label to the CSR at Google who checked and told me the activation date. These are brand new phones so it doesn't make sense. Last night I emailed Woot to ask about the warranty and they haven't replied. I'm considering a return since it's not as advertised, a big difference between 12 months and 7 weeks.

Rechecked my warranty and it expires June 29, 2021, so about 2.5 months.

  1. Pixel 3 should at least get Android 12 later this year. I would catch the phone after it downloads the update but not letting it update.
  2. Also, there are minor updates for Play Market and Security Updates subsystem which I suspect may allow you to toggle the unlock (check Security menu for it).
  3. For now - I would advise to disable "automatic system updates" under Developer Menu so that you trigger it when you want it and can stop the process if you wish.
  4. Last, but not least - 99% that I will not use unlocked bootloader. By the time Google stops sending updates, there would be options to trade this in and get the newer one.

Checked mine on google site, it shows the warranty ends on oct.5, 2021, about 6 months. Let us know what woot has to say about this.

Mine appears to be locked. It won't work with another sim and it won't activate the phone with either the verizon sim it came with nor the visible sim I used

Received an email last night from Woot that the phone is covered by a one year manufacturers warranty. I disputed that and am waiting for the next step. I can return it (reluctantly) but I don't want to pay for shipping since it's not my error.

Let me know what you find out. I'm really curious as I don't want to pay for shipping either. I just checked mine and its warranty expires on June 8th 2021
