SD rule #1: Never call the store!!!
Got two. Were asked to donate for school supplies. Too shy to say no. Donated $5. Guess i am not a good SDer.
Saw 2 in stock in my area in NY, so I went to the store and they weren't on display. Went up to register and it seemed like the supervisor knew exactly the model and size I was looking for, and went to the back and retrieved it for me.

My guess is an employee is trying to keep it for themselves... but I left one for them

What's a good use case for these? A boot drive for a PC? Or put in an old laptop to give it new life? I assume just using it for storage alone isn't very optimal due to the size.
I'll be setting up a raid array for backing up all my txt files

No luck in Brighton, MA. Online inventory says 4 in stock, but when employee went in the back she came out only with 250GB, 500GB and 1TB ones. Said no 120GB were in stock.

Only 120gb, what do you use it for?
Simple Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Email, Browsing computer. All of those can reasonably done in under 120GB with room to spare.

120gb for your O/S root drive is a minimum (after the OS updates, office, page file, core apps associated to the OS like malwarebytes), also, it's well documented that ssd start to degrade when you fill them to capacity. Personally, would be hesitant about using such a small drive today for anything but some games favorites, a cache drive for a mechanical hdd, or raid a half dozen together for a reasonable storage pool.
Linux, baby!

I bought a dozen of these on sale a while back and they all failed after about a year.

Just got two from the local Staples in Illinois at this price. I have a old HTPC that's using an aging 40GB SSD, switching to this will make room for a few more programs (all media is on a NAS)

Perfect for a boot drive on a bunch of devices. I've got a few servers where the boot drive is only using < 8gb. I've got some 256GB's in there since it's the smallest I could find at the time from a major manufacturer.

If I was in the market at the time, I'd have gotten several of these. But not worth keeping them around as spares.
