PSA: For those in states where you're considering enrolling in the utility program to save money on the thermostat, make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions on those programs. For my state and local utility (and I assume other states and utility companies) the pricing model changes, in some cases drastically, by introducing different levels of peak pricing and sometimes even direct control over your thermostat. Whether it can save you money in the long-term is possible, but just be sure you fully understand what the program entails before jumping in with both feet.

Tennessee still hasn't got with the new era. I've been seeing these types of similar posts and a lot of states have implemented these types of programs over the last 3 to 4 years. Once a quarter I'll check my utility company's webpage to see if they have adopted a similar program as other utilities in close by states have and it's always the same song and dance. However, I do applaud my utility company for finally adapting a fiber internet program, but my neighborhood will be one of the last they get to with an estimated time frame of 4 years. I can drive 10 mins down the road to another neighborhood that was lucky and got in phase 1 or 2 of the rollout. I'm in phase 6 and I believe the utility company is either in phase 2 or 3 currently. The only option in my neck of the woods is charter/spectrum and I can only get 100Mb (which is fine for now but as fast as new network gizmos are coming out and eating up bandwidth, that 100Mb will be hurting in a couple of years). Sorry for the rant and that's all I'm going to say as I don't want my blood pressure to skyrocket today 😉.
Meh, I live in NY (Long Island) so I fall under the PSEG Long Island utility. Our bills all have a line item charge that states "Distributed Energy Resource Charge". It actually used to be called "Renewable and Energy Efficiencies Charge" some time ago, not sure why the change.

Anyways, they charge people a line item cost to fund all their rebate programs for stuff like this, outdoor power tools, appliances, etc. An even bigger kick in the oblongs, the charge decreases with usage (more on that in a minute). In my case, I have solar panels on my house so I don't pay anything towards it as I never use more than I generate. Contrast that with my 72-year old mother on her fixed income and she's paying like $20 a month for this "line item".

Call me crazy, but I just don't agree with these types of programs. If my mom could afford to put the solar panels on her house, she clearly would. These programs punish the very people that can't afford to negate them in the first place. They'll argue to use less electricity, but there's only so much you can cut out. Frankly, the way I see it is if you want to make your home more energy efficient have at it, but it shouldn't come at the expense of the collective as a whole. I really have no idea who wakes up in the morning and says "hmm I think this will be a good idea". I feel like they take advantage of people that they know can't fight back against them unless they want to buy an army of hamsters to spin the wheels of electricity for them 🤣

Bummer. PG&E customers in CA with solar installed at home are disqualified from this rebate.
Anyone else get the same message?

True. If you can drive through there on I-80 end to end without contemplating suicide, you've done well. I drove I-80 through Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming on the same day and was glad to get to the Rockies so I could possibly drive off a high cliff.

Which state are you in? I looked on the PG&E website (California) and there was no terms and conditions on this. The website to get this is a third-party site, not official PG&E.

Customers who elect to change to a Time-of-Use rate plan do not need to change their rate through the website. Once a customer selects the appropriate rebate in the erebate process, they will be placed on TOU-C which has Peak (higher price) hours from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day and Off-Peak (lower price) hours before 4 p.m. and after 9 p.m. every day. Learn more about Time-of-Use rate plans.
This is from the California PG&E website about rebates. Not sure if this applies as it's third-party?

I just got one for like $58 (seems tax is calculated pre-rebates so it was $7.80). You may have to have a house w only electric heating (like a heat pump, not a gas furnace).

So once I get this and activate it, it says there is an additional $50 rebate. Does anyone know how this works? Do I contact my electric company after or does it all happen automatically?

California pg&e is NOT no strings attached. For one, you need to install and activate it to get the rebate, so if you already have a smart thermostat you can't get this to resell
Plus some parts of California do not offer this, I fail to qualify and I am in 96002.

For those who live in NYC, does it matter to pick via ConEdison or National Grid? ConEd seems $15 cheaper. I am using it for heating system, which is provided by National Grid.

      Any advice is greatly appreciated.
