PSA: For those in states where you're considering enrolling in the utility program to save money on the thermostat, make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions on those programs. For my state and local utility (and I assume other states and utility companies) the pricing model changes, in some cases drastically, by introducing different levels of peak pricing and sometimes even direct control over your thermostat. Whether it can save you money in the long-term is possible, but just be sure you fully understand what the program entails before jumping in with both feet.

I would read the terms and conditions properly to see if anything similar is applicable

Make sure that enrolling these programs dont give the electric company the right to control your thermostat. Happened in Texas where they turned off the a/c during peak times and the residents where being cooked

Tennessee still hasn't got with the new era. I've been seeing these types of similar posts and a lot of states have implemented these types of programs over the last 3 to 4 years. Once a quarter I'll check my utility company's webpage to see if they have adopted a similar program as other utilities in close by states have and it's always the same song and dance. However, I do applaud my utility company for finally adapting a fiber internet program, but my neighborhood will be one of the last they get to with an estimated time frame of 4 years. I can drive 10 mins down the road to another neighborhood that was lucky and got in phase 1 or 2 of the rollout. I'm in phase 6 and I believe the utility company is either in phase 2 or 3 currently. The only option in my neck of the woods is charter/spectrum and I can only get 100Mb (which is fine for now but as fast as new network gizmos are coming out and eating up bandwidth, that 100Mb will be hurting in a couple of years). Sorry for the rant and that's all I'm going to say as I don't want my blood pressure to skyrocket today 😉.
FWIW, I had Charter Spectrum, now I am stuck with Xfinity and I absolutely despise them. Supposedly we have AT&T as an option, but since the top speed is 8-10MBPS (yes, you read that correctly, eight to ten MBPS), our only option is Comcast Xfinity and they are MISERABLE!! I've even threatened lawsuits on them due to theBS they pull. No company should be allowed to have a monopoly. Ever.

P.S I would love to have Charter Spectrum back. Comcast is the devil incarnate.

No to threadcrap, but it looks like the offer is for the basic nest thermostat. I have that one as well as the E. The basic is garbage. Moving between menus or changing is a PITA on the thermostat directly. I just use my app with it. Hardware is so bad.

Also, if you intend to add room sensors, the basic won't support it.

Just some things to keep in mind.
A lot of it depends upon what state you in. Here in Georgia, all the smart thermostats are on sale and have a $50 rebate. We just had one of our older smart thermostats die on us, so we will be hitting this. Thanks OP!!

Is that 10 megabits or megabytes per second?

Anyone with PG&E (North CA) is unable to register new account on homeenergyrewards.com? It's saying

"Unfortunately, you are not eligible for the Home Energy Rewards program at this time.
Please check other offerings available at www.pge.com/saveenergy and www.pge.com/rebates"

I have SAID and both electric/gas services, not sure what's the problem.
      I have the same issue

It looked scammy to me so I cancelled my order a while back. It didn't seem to add up to me when they say they'd provide the rebate after I install it.

Good question. Conventionally MB is megabytes and Mb is megabits, as in What does B stand for in MB/GB, bit or byte? - Stack Overflow [stackoverflow.com].

Yes, I am aware... I was asking because kmsimpson posted that AT&T's top speed is 10 MBPS... which confused me... I thought internet speeds were usually in megabits, not megabytes. I just got curious.

      Thanks!
