That appears to be a YMMV clearance price back in 2018. The Blue Hawk racks are no longer sold at Lowes. These were most likely clearanced because of the 25% steel tariff imposed by Trump back in March 2018.

Many of the people in the thread couldn't get that price depending on their zip code. I've never had any luck with brickseek and YMMV deals on slickdeals. Every time I go to get a deal, the store's inventory is wrong and they didn't have any in stock.

I fully ignore YMMV threads. I never have luck with them in my area. I think some unemployed people spend all their time on slickdeals and snipe deals, then resell them on facebook marketplace or something.

I just checked the lowes website now. The Monsterrax and Gladiator 4x8 rack are $152($179 reg) and $159.99 each. That's $300- $320 for 2 racks, and no hangers or accessories included. So I don't know what you're talking about.

$240 for two 4x8 racks is a great deal.

I got this deal last time it was offered and it's great. Installed it by myself, I used an A frame ladder to hold one side of the cross beam while I bolted in the other side.

When pricing them out, this deal, given the quality and thickness of steel is actually very good. Most kits that get you close to this price range, require you to buy plywood for the base, while this kit comes with the steel grate base and extra hanging hooks that are very useful.

I bought a bunch of those black totes with the yellow lids and this totally free'd up all the floor space in my garage. I'm so happy I did this.

I feel like an idiot, but I read their description of how to chose the "Drop down range" and I still don't understand what it means. Anyone care to explain it? Is the "drop down range" the distance from the shelf to the ceiling?
Your question had me wondering if my own understanding was correct so I went ahead and dug around the product page. Under the "4' X 8' Tour" -> 1 Adjustable Height section, it states:

"These heights are the distance from the bottom of the rack to the ceiling."

Did anyone notice that the good reviews are mostly from several years ago and the 1 star reviews are from within the last year? Going by the several reviews I read it seems that they have cheapened up the quality of the product. Has anyone on here purchased these in the last year that can comment on the quality now?

Do people get these over regular shelving because they don't have a big enough garage? Trying to understand the benefit of this vs. typical metal garage shelving.

I bought them from the last deal and I feel they are very heavy duty. No complaints here.

That's exactly why I got these. We don't have a large garage with two cars inside and I'd much prefer stuff I only access a couple of times per year to be off the floor so I can walk freely around my cars.

People say to declutter, but it depends on the house. I live in a townhome where there is only one storage closet under a single flight of stairs. This allows us to put our holiday stuff out of the way.

I have this set and it is great. That being said, I need another set, but the 3' wide version. Does anyone remember if the other sizes ever go on sale?

Every builder will tell you the same thing. They don't want you complaining because you hung hundreds of pounds on your ceiling and it started to sag.
Also, not every joist you find holding up your ceiling will be a solid piece of wood. They also use particle board sandwiched between two 1x2s (Engineered joists). Mounting a rack directly to those 1x2s would be a bad idea.
I have 1960 home with plaster ceiling. Can I hang these?

I got a pair of these about 3 years ago. Install is pretty easy- you'll need a rubber mallet and an impact driver. Optionally, a separate drill to make the pilot holes. And a friend who will help out, preferably for pizza. My car goes right under one; it's a great place to stash those Costco sized packs of toilet paper and whatnot. It really freed up space.

Lath and plaster or plaster board? Laths will make it harder to find your joists. You should have solid wood joists but building codes were kinda lax back then so load bearing might still be a problem.
Just don't overload them and you'll probably be fine, but I'm no expert.

We have metal lath at least when we renovated on interior walls. I assume the same for the ceiling. I have joists but hopefully at a degree to which these units require. I was debating to do 2 8 foot runs of 4 feet but maybe better to do 8 x2 as it would be less Items
