I learned the hard way that this phone will not work on cricket. It's compatible in every way but it will not activate because it's not on their HD voice whitelist.
If it's similar to the T-Mobile version (-UW) then it should work fine on Cricket. To get VoLTE to work you'll need to give Cricket an old Cricket phone that supports this. I did this through chat and basically said my device isn't showing up online so I gave them the IMEI of a Moto 7 I had which was Cricket branded and as soon as they updated it then it worked. Same goes for data speeds, since One Plus 8 isn't supported they don't support hotspot and that plan is limited to 8MB speeds. As soon as they made the switch of the IMEI I was full speed ahead. Hope this helps someone whether it be this device or another unsupported Cricket device.

But keep in mind One Plus support is horrible. I have the OP8 and OP8 Pro and as soon as I sell them I'll never go back. Great phone but when you try to get support to help that is a nightmare.

Gah! I hate curved edge screens - too prone to accidental touches. I'll never understand how these are supposed to be appealing.

Hmmm... under features section it says:

curved 6.55" Fluid AMOLED Display
Looking at pics, it seems flat - anybody know which it is?

Confirmed curved. Think I'll pass for now.

My experience was as soon as I put my cricket sim in the phone and powered on, I get a text saying my cricket line was suspended. Put the sim back in my old cricket-branded phone and it still didn't work until I chatted with customer service and had them reactivate my sim. Was told that as of early 2021, their system will not activate phones that aren't on their HD Voice whitelist.
In the past I was able to activate any unlocked phone and give an alternate IMEI to get VoLTE working, but this policy of theirs is new and I didn't get that far.
Would be curious to know if anyone has been able to activate a OP phone on cricket in the past couple months.

The phone is also dependent on Verizon for software updates.
Just FYI. OnePlus is pretty good with their timely Android updates, Verizon not so much.

They must have changed it then. It was maybe 3 months ago since I had cricket.

It's curved. Too much, IMHO. Then again, I hate curved screens.

"Verizon Variant / US Compatible LTE + 5G
The OnePlus 8 is a Verizon variant. It may be used in other parts of the world; however, 5G access may be limited or unsupported, depending on the network. Please choose your country/carrier above to confirm the network compatibility of this phone.
"

Wondering if 5G will work with most carriers.
For those wondering on T-Mobile, it will get their MMwave 5G, but not the useful low and mid-band 5G. I would absolutely pass if I was in a 5G T-Mobile area. I am, and I'm passing.

does this receive security updates regularly like pixel phones? Are both oneplus 8 silver and black on sale?
Define regularly. Every month? No. More like every 3 or 6. Ever since they started making more than two variants (7 series), updates have gone downhill. I have the 7 pro, and I got Android 11 a couple months ago only because I installed the beta. Public release wasn't until now basically. It took 6 months for them to release a beta of the newest version to an almost 2 year old phone.

I wouldn't expect timely updates for the 8 series in a year.

Yeah I'm thinking of getting the next Pixel "a" when it comes out. Good value and one of first to get updates.

I have read the last thread when it was $450. Mixed comments on how it works on Mint/Tmobile.
Summary:
- 5G mostly not working, which is okay for me
- Uses Verizon software, so text seems to have issues, but fixable via Tmobile support

Could some give some definitive answers if all important phone features work on Mint/Tmobile? Again, 5G is not a factor.
- 4G LTE
- Call quality
- Text
- Text with photos

Thanks.
