QVC [qvc.com] has the Calphalon Quartz Heat Countertop Oven (a convection toaster oven) for $98.87 + $7.50 S&H. First time buyers can use this coupon for $10 off your first order of $25+: FRIEND.

This is model TSCLTRDG1 and is listed on the Calphalon website [calphalon.com] for $209.99. It has 4.5 stars on Amazon [amazon.com], where it's currently listed at effectively $179 ($199 + 10% coupon). Costco sells a slightly different model for $180 advertised as "Toaster Oven with Air Fry," which appears to be this same unit with an "air fry" setting.

If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

people, convection oven is a bigger air fryer.

people paying $50-60 bucks for an airfryer. spend a little more for an all in one like this that does way more
The added air fry setting in the Costco model is probably just marketing. A convection oven is essentially the same thing as an air fryer.
i own this unit so i know it will air fry

So does the air fryer version of this oven just have faster fans or is it the same fan speed with a gimmick air fry button?

Correct. The difference is the upgraded fan cfm capability. Normal convection oven fans moves air very slow.

Yep, definitely true...just canceled my order...good catch. Hopefully we'll see a true air frying toaster oven at a good price on SD at some point soon. Thanks dizzle

Air fry is convection but convection isn't always air fry.

How am I so sure? I own a toaster oven with convection but it doesn't air fry.

Declaring something a fact doesn't end the disagreement Someone saying that an air fryer is essentially the same thing as a convection oven and you saying 'no it's not' isn't really making a case. You weren't nice and you weren't clever. If you're not going to be right, be nice at least.

The fan is usually bigger. Comes on faster and louder with higher CFM. Sort of like taking a heatgun and blowing it at your food to make it cook faster and crisper. Conventional ovens fans are slow and you're essentially baking. So a conventional WITH air fryer usually means they have a bigger variable speed fan built in and is able to blow harder when you toggle on for air frying and slow down when you're using the conventional baking options.

I have this exact oven - and a standalone air fryer - and I can vouch for the fact that in convection mode, the Calphalon oven actually does a better job of air frying than the stand-alone air fryer. And when you consider that the interior capacity is at least 3x the size of the air fryer, this is a far superior product in every way. I haven't seen too many air fryers in which you can bake a 12-in pizza. 🤔

I think it's also worth noting that the Calphalon oven looks and feels like a super-premium appliance on your counter - unlike the cheap, cheesy appearance of most of the air fryers I've seen. (A good analogy would be the appearance and feel of the controls on a 2021 Lexus vs a 1988 Ford Escort.)

I agree. At least it looks like that from my vantage and when I've seen them in the stores. Do you own it? Can you tell me how well it works for roasting and baking? I have a Breveille and it works awesome and I need to buy something for my daughter and I love the price on this and wonder if it will work well for her.

Nice, already had an air fryer so I don't care about the heated (no pun intended) debate going on in this thread but the toast setting on our last toaster oven went out recently so this came at an opportune time and should look nice on the countertop

How Does an Air Fryer Work?

First of all, air fryers don't actually fry. Instead, the food goes into a perforated basket and the machine cooks the food by blowing hot air around it. The force of the air produces a convection effect that cooks and browns the exterior of the food in the basket. Convection is the key.

Air fryers are really mini convection ovens that use a fan to rapidly circulate hot air, cooking food faster and more evenly than a conventional oven would.
Convection = fan

Well is there a standard for the fan speed for it to be considered or be elevated from a convection to air fry oven? Seems like a lot of shots in the dark type situation with this whole debate going on trying to pin down what an air fry convection oven is...

Well seems useless to explain to people. Air fryer is a convectional oven with larger fan which cooks and circulates air much faster. If it does not have the air fryer option, the oven does not consist of a higher powered fan which will allow for this "air frying" method. Simply put if you throw frozen fries into an oven it would not be as crispy as an oven when you activate the "air fry" mode. Anyways, some people who actually own air fryers actually know the difference and has vouched. This will be my last post about this. Have a great day everyone. If you need more proof simply check youtube and search air fryer vs convectional oven. And yes, you typically do not want to buy a standalone air fryer. You want a conventional oven WITH air fryer feature.

Just want a toaster oven, don't need any of these fancy gizmos that increase the price and the size too.
Isn't there something great under $50?
