I wasn't sure if this would dissuade anyone from this deal. From the obitalk website: "As of March 10th, 2021, sign-ups and renewals for OBiEXTRAs are closed to new and existing customers. If you have an active 1-year or 2-year OBiEXTRAs subscription, you will be refunded in-full. For questions, please contact [email protected], be sure to include your OBiTALK Sign-In email and your 9-digit OBi No. for reference."
do you have access to a time machine that can take you 2 hours forward in time? (which is when the sale starts)
Just checked my Amazon order history and we paid $75 for our OBi202 back in May 2013. Best ROI on anything I've ever bought. Using Google Voice for nearly eight years now with no landline phone bills, previously around $40/month or $500/year, means we've saved about $4000 on our $75 investment. Highly recommend this.

I take your point but different people have different needs.

Some people with older alarm/security systems can't get it to work reliably with a voip line and "require" a regular landline..........or at least that's what the alarm company says. Not everyone lives within cellular range.

Some elderly people or those with a health condition want a landline for a more secure route to call 911 in an emergency. Even in a power outage the landline should continue to work. But they may also want an OBi ATA to use a different/cheaper provider to make long distance or international calls.

I use Comcast and it is sometimes cheaper for me to get a triple-play package (which includes a phone line) than any other package that has the features I want. Although I might not need the extra line it's there and I'm paying for it so why not use it? So if you have an OBi device with an FXO port you can plug directly into the Comcast gateway modem's phone port and integrate it into your OBi device.
Thanks for the clarification. I do think, though, those situations are the exception, not the norm. The majority of users are looking to escape landline limitations and costs with these devices. 911 capability can also be added for a small charge, though power is still necessary as you mentioned. But your point is well taken.

This looks interesting. I'm running a magic jack for my fax. My current doctor still uses fax and prefers information sent him via fax till this day.

The newer version of what? The OBi212 is the newer version of the OBi110, not the OBi202.

The OBi212 has 1 FXS (phone) port and 1 FXO (line) port which allows connection to an existing landline analog port.

The OBi202 has 2 FXS (phone) ports which allows 2 simultaneous conversations (or fax) thru the same ATA using 2 different lines/numbers.
My mistake. Amazon.com still has the $59.99 deal for Obi202 as an "Other Seller." Still sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com, but cheaper than the main featured one (not sure why).

I use it in my home office. I found it is best to lower the baud rate of the fax to 14,400 or lower. Anything higher than 14,400 will cause an abort during the transmission. I also recommend turning off noise cancellation in the OB202 because it will mistake the fax transmission as noise and cause lots of errors
I google searched your recommendation to "turning off noise cancellation in the OB202 because it will mistake the fax transmission as noise and cause lots of error."

I am not getting any "hits" on "OBI 202 turn off noise cancellation"

Can anyone clarify proper terminology, provide a link or instructions on how to turn this off to avoid errors!

Thanks in advance!

Disable SilenceSuppression in the settings. You can either log into your ob202 directly with your username and password or through obihai/Polycom portal under Expert Configuration Menu

I also highly recommend disabling Call Waiting. Set your fax machine to dial these codes before dialing the number for the remote party. This will prevent another incoming call from disrupting your fax transmissions.

*57 Disable Call Waiting

I also enabled these settings.
T38Enable
T38ECM

ECM is a fax error correction algorithm. It will help you achieve those 14,400bps speeds instead of the 9,600bps.

Does anyone know how the voicemail works on OBI devices? Could I able to check them online while away from the phone. I'm using the t-mobile prepay phone and this comes in handy if it supports voicemail. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Teddy6321 ! Had Obi 202 for many years and use about twice a year to fax something (SEND ONLY) for an odd, unusual reason. Tried to fax something recently and it was a total failure. Tried to fax again the next day and it worked. I knew Obi had been sold and realized there was a informal community. Didn't realize that there was a paid support service, but it makes sense for active users (not me).

Anyway, tried to do what you recommended for silence suppression. Got a new password and entered the old Obitalk portal I used to set up my account many years ago.

First impression. Lots have changed since I last logged on when I created account many years ago.

Second Impression: I found a settings button, but it did not have "silence suppression".

Afraid to start making changes to account. Afraid it would result in a "lost day" of learning to figure out what I did wrong and how to fix.

Anyway, I appreciate your help! Was able to make adjustments to old Brother 575 fax to lower baud rate. Hopefully, that will help.

Will give you a thumbs up for effort.

Thanks bro!

This OBi device is an Analog Telephone Adapter and therefore doesn't have any voicemail capabilities. You would have to retrieve your voicemail directly from your provider be it Google Voice or another voip provider. Most voip providers allow you to access and listen to your voicemails online.

Your welcome.
Here is a screen snapshot of where those settings are in the portal. I circled them in red.

Thanks for all the great info and the link to the admin guide. I logged into my Obi200 expert menu and although I see the settings they are all grayed out and I can't change them. Only ones I need to do are the "T38" boxes. Any tips? Thanks

EDIT: to make changes, need to uncheck both of the boxes on the right side of what you want to check. Then hit the confirm at the bottom to send the changes to the device.

In order to make any edits you must uncheck both boxes to the right of the field you wish to edit. Then submit and save your settings.
