Some people with older alarm/security systems can't get it to work reliably with a voip line and "require" a regular landline..........or at least that's what the alarm company says. Not everyone lives within cellular range.
Some elderly people or those with a health condition want a landline for a more secure route to call 911 in an emergency. Even in a power outage the landline should continue to work. But they may also want an OBi ATA to use a different/cheaper provider to make long distance or international calls.
I use Comcast and it is sometimes cheaper for me to get a triple-play package (which includes a phone line) than any other package that has the features I want. Although I might not need the extra line it's there and I'm paying for it so why not use it? So if you have an OBi device with an FXO port you can plug directly into the Comcast gateway modem's phone port and integrate it into your OBi device.
The OBi212 has 1 FXS (phone) port and 1 FXO (line) port which allows connection to an existing landline analog port.
The OBi202 has 2 FXS (phone) ports which allows 2 simultaneous conversations (or fax) thru the same ATA using 2 different lines/numbers.

I am not getting any "hits" on "OBI 202 turn off noise cancellation"
Can anyone clarify proper terminology, provide a link or instructions on how to turn this off to avoid errors!
Thanks in advance!

I also highly recommend disabling Call Waiting. Set your fax machine to dial these codes before dialing the number for the remote party. This will prevent another incoming call from disrupting your fax transmissions.
*57 Disable Call Waiting
I also enabled these settings.
T38Enable
T38ECM
ECM is a fax error correction algorithm. It will help you achieve those 14,400bps speeds instead of the 9,600bps.

Anyway, tried to do what you recommended for silence suppression. Got a new password and entered the old Obitalk portal I used to set up my account many years ago.
First impression. Lots have changed since I last logged on when I created account many years ago.
Second Impression: I found a settings button, but it did not have "silence suppression".
Afraid to start making changes to account. Afraid it would result in a "lost day" of learning to figure out what I did wrong and how to fix.
Anyway, I appreciate your help! Was able to make adjustments to old Brother 575 fax to lower baud rate. Hopefully, that will help.
Will give you a thumbs up for effort.
Thanks bro!

Here is a screen snapshot of where those settings are in the portal. I circled them in red.

EDIT: to make changes, need to uncheck both of the boxes on the right side of what you want to check. Then hit the confirm at the bottom to send the changes to the device.
