I've seen the OEM filters go for $39 to $51 at various places too.
I read a bunch of studies on these devices and PurpleAir seemed to be one of the more reliable devices for the prosumer market. I've been using the indoor model for a few weeks and it's really been eye opening. The amount of air pollution that comes from cooking has been unsettling to see. And before someone tells me they are too expensive, yes they aren't cheap, and I don't think they really go on sale, but isn't keeping your lungs healthy the ultimate slickdeal?
Anyway, if you want to get into the weeds a bit, you can use Homebridge or similar software to make this a HomeKit device. Once your air quality drops to a certain level, your house can be set to automatically kick on the HVAC fan or turn on your air purifier (if it's hooked into a smart plug).
