Some say not to use on caliper slide pins. In that case, it would be better to use a product that could be used on all the brake parts that require lubrication.

It absolutely can be used on caliper slides and the Amazon photos even show it as an application.

From a review: Although the information given states that this is for use on caliper pins, it is not. The product is not compatible with the rubber boots. The product is supposed to be excellent on metal to metal surfaces only.

From the manufacturer:
It is not compatible with the rubber boots and bushings. We have a product that is much better for rubber application. This is product 80653 Permatex Silicone Ceramic Extreme Brake Caliper Lube. It is compatible with the Rubber boots and bushings and will not become sticky over time.

Interesting. I have used this on 5+ vehicles with no issues but YMMV based on what material your caliper slides are protected by (mine were all rubber, accordion style).

"not compatible" probably just means the chemicals will attack the boot rubber *over time*. that could be a very long time.

I generally use the 3M silicone product - seriously that stuff works so well on so many different things

This is anecdotal but I used this on my 2011 rav4 which has rubber o rings on the slide pins. It absolutely caused shuddering and took me a long time to figure out this was the culprit. I switched to CRC (and replaced the o rings) and have not had any issues. It was very frustrating to learn the permatex is not compatible with rubber.

I've found SilGlyde be more slick and last longer. This ceramic stuff tends to dry out and lose lubricity fast.

it is NOT the brand that is incompatible with rubber, it's the chemistry there. silicone works well with rubber; while petroleum-based stuff, synthetic or not, will swollen rubber over time. Pay a few extra bucks and switching all brake lube from old-school type to silicone based (Permatex Silicone or 3M). Or if you happen to have the regular lube for calipers, use them only on the pad retaining clips, backing plate, and wherever the lube will not contact rubber seals and boots on the caliper, you'd be fine.
