Man that's steep for LEDs. I have a ton of hue lights and even with me pretty invested in the ecosystem I'd pass on that or $200.

The color changing gets old after a while. In hindsight I wish I saved the money and got some nice cool white bulbs and just wired smart wall switches with a dimming function. I did that in my garage and it worked great.

Agreed, I had a DIY ambilight-type setup years ago.. was a fun project, looked great and I enjoyed it for a while, then just got a bit old/annoying. I ended up turning the intensity down so much it wasn't even worth keeping after a while.

But wouldn't it not mimic what's on your screen if you use a device like an Apple TV?

I had the DreamScreen via Kickstarter and it was amazing but sold it cause it was a 1080p set when I moved/got a 4K TV. I always enjoyed it though for movies.

A lot of people use an HTPC like me, for them this and the Hue Sync bar works perfect without requiring the HDMI box. With that said, I miss not being able to use this with my PS5.

If you compare the price to the hue plays, this is actually a better deal. 2 plays bars are ... $130 maybe. Getting 4 wouldn't look as good as this and cost more...

LOL maybe in 1990! I've been using Lightpack/Prismatik since 2015. Here are some videos of my current setup which can be done for $30

I guess I'm a geek/nerd so that was easy for me to do, but for you "other guys" just buy this:

Same here. I've been slowly converting to Lutron Caseta and am much happier with it. The hue line in gneral feels like temporary solutions. Feels like the difference between putting up posters in your bedroom and buying framed pictures for your home.

However the hue Gradient/Play system for your tv is something different and I don't see an easy kit solution to do what it does. Just wish it wasn't sooo expensive.
