Hopefully there are some 128gb pixel 3xl's that will hit these sales.

My 3xl has been a champ for 2.5 years. Wouldn't mind replacing it with a new one.

I've had mine since it was released and I think this might be the first time I haven't had an itch to upgrade to a new phone. Absolutely no complaints.

Considering the lack of security updates after October.. just how important is this?

Also, the 4a 128gb is $350 .. no wireless charging, not completely waterproof (but probably good enough) and will get updates for another 2.5 years.

Battery replacement is $80 for my 3 XL at ubrakeifix .. though not sure I trust them with such a complicated battery replacement.

My battery life has become abysmal. Otherwise I love my 3 XL
Batteriesplusbulbs in Houston will also replace it for $79, did mine and it's good as new.

Thank you for the input! It gives me the confidence to try it.

I suppose I backup everything, all the data and keep a copy of what apps I have installed, then turn it over to them.

At this point I don't have much to lose. And then maybe I can make it to the Pixel 7 or 8.

I like how the recent Pixels have lower powered CPUs.. it saves quite a bit of battery life apparently.

Also, stopping charging around 80-85% can increase life of battery by a factor of 2x-3x .. it seems you have to root to get this function though.

Thoughts on Amazon refurb 4xl for $286?
No doubt it's a good phone, but the refurb probably means a battery that doesn't hold a charge like new. Same situation many of us are in.

It's frustrating that we don't have a simple way to replace the battery in a modern flagship level phone. The hardware has for the most part matured and is on the plateau part of the graph, so why ditch the whole thing just because the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore? Seems like such a waste. I'd trade my IPX whatever rating to be able to just buy a new battery and throw it in (like I used to with my old LG V20)

Oh man I don't want to make this an Apple vs Google thread, but I used to be a Pixel / Android fanboi and take a lot of pictures.

But it took forever to get OIS and a telephoto lens, after waiting and waiting I picked up an iPhone 11 Pro. This thing takes beautiful pictures, has both a telephoto and wide angle lens, and the battery life is INSANE (compared to the early Pixel and Pixel 2's that were plugged into battery packs whenever I left the house).

There are things I don't like about Apple's controlling OS but I find this is more usable. Again - only my personal experience and opinion.

Pixel be to google like woot be to amazon.

Pure garbage, and I even gave them a chance after 2 replacements of OGpixel devices, tried the 3.

Nope issues just like the pixel 1 however, had to deal with google for warranty and they are a bunch of untrained unsupervised lazy teleworkers. Talking about can't even get the correct address to send the rma'ed phone right, and refused to be of any help. Bottom of the barrel customer service.

Any SD'ers able to parse the description "made for Verizon but is unlocked and compatible w/other carriers", also infers ability to unlock the bootloader?
I took the plunge but will cancel order or return if the bootloader is NOT unlockable.

Might be of interest: I ordered & recvd a used Woot Pixel 3 XL 128. IMEI began w/35 (Verizon) and unable to unlock.
Other than my interest in an unlocked phone... this used (2yo phone per blacklist checkers) was in better cosmetic shape than anticipated. (a single 3/8" scratch on screen. Back was fine)
Battery "seems" good per a simple app-test.

What about a battery replacement? These
Wrong about the update, Pixel 3/3XL will get probably their final update this Fall. There are Android 12 dev previews available for it.

I'd rather have the used one for $70 less. Even the new one will have battery degradation just from sitting on the shelf for years.

I've had mine for two years and the battery life is horrendous now. So I wouldn't mind getting a new one just to replace the battery.
My pixel 3 battery was shot as well. Battery was swelling and only lasted like 5 mins, just under the 2 year mark. I called Google support and they were able to replace my phone with a refurbished (looked new to me) for free. Note, original purchase was through Google store (not sure if that allowed the free replacement) and required a $750 deposit that is returned once they receive your old phone.

So if your battery life is shitty due to swelling, I'd give Google support a call.

Me and my wife both have Pixel 3 128GB (rooted Google's version) and both have camera issues (loosing focus). I was able to replace hers before warranty expired but mine started showing same symptoms after warranty was already over. Unfortunately there is no other newer, rootable, small android phone on the market that would be better than Pixel 3. Pixel 4 doesn't have fingerprint reader so it's no go for me. Pixel 5 has issues with sound quality and reception. 4a and 4a 5g are not waterproof. So I'm actually looking for either new or refurbished Pixel 3 to replace mine (black) and another as spare for my wife's (pink). But it seems that nobody sells Google's version, only Verizon with not unlockable boot loader. The only place that you can get Google's version is Google store but it's little bit too pricey there.
Why do you need a waterproof phone other than "why not"? Honest question, as its the least comprehendable trait that manufacturer's love to promote. I'd rather the spectrum swing back the other direction to user-replaceable batteries and headphone jacks. But I'll admit that's never going to happen.

Because I can take photos/videos being in the pool/ocean/lake or wash it in the sink when something sticky get spilled over it. And I did both to mine so yes I need phone to be waterproof Smilie But you are right about user replaceable batteries. If I could chose between this and waterproof I would probably chose first but since there is no choice like that I prefer to get a waterproof phone.

These are great phones for the unlimited photo storage. I brought it just for that. It's a little pain in the butt but if you transfer your photos/videos to the phone. You can upload the uncompressed file into Google Photos cloud storage for free until 2022 then it becomes unlimited compressed file. I have the phone mainly connected to my computer all the time just for that sole purpose.

Can we actually take a photo underwater for instance in a lake without it hurting the phone? .. I always figured the water proof feature was for accidental drops into water.

that's amazing, well done! Mine lasts longer than 5 minutes, but i def have to charge it several times a day. Did you physically see swelling? How would I know if that's the issue?
