For those who have a Costco membership and are considering this item, I highly recommend the Massimo e-coolers that they sell. I've had the 42 quart version for two years now and I use it frequently on camping trips without any issues. For the first year I used it as a spare fridge, running it pretty much non-stop.

Temperature regulation, no need for consumables, no water leak chance, no wet food, etc. Want me to keep going?

Just unplug your fridge and fill with ice...you'll see why

Why not just use a cooler with ice
It's a matter of improving and making your life easy but not for everyone.

Does it put out a lot of heat? Say if I have an SUV, would it heat up the cabin?
No, it doesn't.

Why didn't you just get a cheap mini fridge for a spare fridge? I can't imagine these are at efficient for use indoors.
I ended up getting a cheap mini fridge for a spare and use my massimo e-cooler for camping or outdoor parties only.

They actually are super efficient. Uses less than 60w and can be run on a Ryovi 18v battery inverter.

Ice melts. I can go dry camping in the middle of nowhere and with this and my solar panel all my food stays cold. Youre allso able to pack more stuff if you don't need to account for the ice. Stuff doesn't get soggy. Plus it freezes too so you can bring ice cream.

A cooler with ice has some advantages but these ecoolers are fantastic.

Does it ever freeze up? I have a different brand that I've used for years, but running it non-stop will eventually cause the fan to freeze the condensation it pulls in from either the drinks or the outside.

Do you have the 150w or 300w Ryobi inverter, and how long does your Ryobi battery seem to last you? I think this is a great solution, considering the Ryobi inverter is small.

When I ran out nonstop for a year in my office, I did notice some frozen condemnation at the bottom of the cooler. I kept my drinks at about 37 degrees so I thought this was normal. Same thing happens in my household fridge.

150w version. Lasts about 4-6 hours on a 4ah battery. I only used the inverter solution in my camper before I installed solar. For all other usage I'm either plugged into an outlet or using the 12v socket.

Haters gonna hate but after a day of riding dirtbikes in the desert, an ice cream bar is heaven on earth. And if you think that's bad, sometimes I bring an ice maker so I can have my alcoholic beverages on the rocks. Don't get me started on the movie projector I bring so me and my friends can watch/relive or daily adventures on a big screen... lol

One other thing to consider... these types of fridges are very popular in the overland expedition world. Most of those people get an ARB or Pingel version and spend nearly a grand on their fridges. These are similar (but definitely not as good of a compressor) for a quarter of the price. That's the whole idea of SD isn't it?

For people in the transportation industry these things are great. They also have 12v to 110v adapters (cig outlet to a wall outlet) so you can keep cold drinks in the garage or whatever. Dealing with ice can be a headache. I bought the ~100 dollar coleman one from walmart and like it, but the power connection gets worryingly got.

No hate here! Just never crossed my mind to pack ice cream in a cooler, but now...my wife and kids might get real kick out of it!

I've seen a few comments/reviews saying that it can run off solar. How does that work? Do you need to have a GoLabs or Jackery to run in conjunction with the solar panel? Or is there a direct solar connection?

Full-time van life here. Been using the Yeti Hopper for the last 6 months, it's real cheap to fill it with a $3 bag of ice every 4 days. Takes up less space. Easy to lug around camps. This seems nice but I'm not sure I want something draining my 1000w Goal Zero battery every minute of every day, I feel like that would diminish its lifespan. Plus I tend to park in the shade, so even my 200w solar wouldn't keep me topped off for long and if the battery dies my food spoils. If my ice melts I buy more ice. The only convincing reason to upgrade I've heard is being able to store ice cream. Keeping food from getting soggy is easy to avoid (some of y'all haven't heard of ziplock apparently). I'm open to it but I'd need firsthand experience from other campers that it's actually an improvement over a cooler.
So 3 dollar bag of ice every 4 days will cost you 273 dollars every year..plus you have to go drive somewhere to buy it. And you have to keep wasting ziploc bags. Then there's the constant reshuffling of contents as you drain the melted ice and add more. Coolers didn't work for me.

This fridge and all other compressor fridges in this price range are manufactured by Alpicool. They may have slight differences between brands, but for customer service reasons I'd go with one directly from Alpicool or get the Massimo from Costco. If possible look for one with the LG compressor.

Compressor fridges are much better than thermoelectric coolers because they use much less electricity and can maintain any temperature. Themoelectric ones can only get about ~30 degrees below the ambient temperature so on an 80 degree day you could only get the fridge down to ~50 and that's not even worth it.
