Do you need to use the phone on google fi

Do you mean the phone itself does not have to be used on google fi?
Id like to know this as well. I don't mind paying for 3 month service but if we have to use the phone with Google fi then that's kind of a deal breaker

I had this problem. Here is how to fix it:
  1. On the "Here's your cart, everyting look okay?" screen at URL https://fi.google.com/signup?numpeople=1#main go down to the "You" box and click "Edit" on the phone
  2. On the screen you end up on, scroll all the way down to the bottom and click the "< Back" button
  3. You end up on a screen with phone options or "bring your own" and now you can actually pick a different phone or remove it all together with "bring your own"

You have to follow this exactly. The key is step #2. The "< Back" is on the lower left. It is totally confusing...

If it is an instant discount, then no. I paid 7% tax on Moto G Power (2020) advertised for $49 and ~$3.50 in taxes.

For those who don't want to splurge a lot, Moto G Power 2020 and Stylus 2020 are free after $49 service credit for new Fi customers, and require 90-day service.

Be aware that if you ever had Google Fi before (for example cancelled 5 years ago as me) - you will not qualify for promotion and will learn it only after moving everything to new phone, porting number and all that. Contacted support - nothing they can do. Returning the phone since I am not buying this for full price. So much wasted time, so wanted to warn folks =(

At what point did you they try to charge you full price for the phone? I just completed checkout and I ask because I got placed on Fi in error when it first started. Long story, but I was only on for about 8 hours until they were able to reverse and cancel everything. My number never transferred in, but being Google I'm sure this is all linked to my Google account.

I tried to port-in my H2Owirless number to google Fi. However, Google Fi recognized my number as AT&T number, so they gave me "The info you entered didn't match what's on file with AT&T". tried to call google fi and still cannot transfer in. anyone has an idea? thanks
