It's for pretty much all SoCal gas customers.

How much is the typical install?

IINM, it's at least a couple of grand for pro install.

Anyone ever done this and gotten the rebate? Any special permit or inspection needed to recieve the rebate?

Thinking of buying this and installing myself.. Will I have any issues with obtaining a rebate thru socal gas.?

//is it a standard proof of purchase upc and sales receipt ordeal or require special items

You can buy high efficiency water heater from $700

Don't put outside in cold areas as it's harder to heat in winter

As for brand reheem quality is dropping
Were I work tank hot water heaters are breaking down after 6 months keep your reciept so you can change it up to 10 years but only parts and labour for 1; year

We've had a couple of tankless gas water heaters and love them. But bear in mind the venting and gas supply requirements where you plan to mount the tankless, vs an existing tank water heater, could get expensive.

Our first one, a Takagi, was an outside vent one, like the one in this deal, so couldn't be in the crawlspace where the previous tank water heater was. Cost about $2000 to install including running a gas line.

The Takagi worked fine, but when we remodeled and enclosed that space, wanted to move the tankless water heater into the crawlspace where the old tank water heater was. Had to get rid of the Takagi and got a Noritz that could be vented through the old water heater flue. But needed upgrade the gas pipe to 1" - would have been expensive if not done as part of the remodel, but since the walls were all torn out, was easy to run a new pipe through the house.

Could be even more if you don't already have a natural gas line on your property. EEK!

Edit: I don't.

that makes sense. but I'm assuming this is just replacing an existing tankless gas water heater.

unless you're doing major renovation or doing a new construction it rarely makes sense to switch to tankless.

Water heater tank in attic proved to be costly for those directly affected by Texas winter storm of 2021.

No, replacing a tank water heater. Needs at least a new exhaust pipe.

Maybe less if you never run your furnace and water heater at the same time like me in So Cal.

Swapped out my gas tank heater to a gas tankless awhile back. Wish I knew about the anode rods for tank heaters, would've swapped it out every few years, the igniter broke within warranty period and Rheem sent me a new one, free of charge, under warranty, so I swapped it myself. Finally rusted out and began leaking after 10 years.

Anyways, installed the tankless water heater myself but realized that the gas line needed to be upgraded, I have yet to call a plumber to upgrade that line. It doesn't get as hot as it's supposed to, but I've been able to use the same exhaust tube as my previous gas tank heater. The water lines were pretty easy to connect as well after watching some youtube videos on how to use flux and solder. All in all, took about a weekend for me to hookup.
