I have the Gaggia Classic pro and love it. I have never owned a Breville, but my in laws have a Breville Barista Express that I've used on a few occasions. I don't think it pulls nearly as good a shot as my Gaggia. Considering Gaggia is quite a bit less expensive and has a such a great reputation for durability, I think it's the way to go.

Breville Espresso machines are pretty well-made (supposedly internal Italian parts and assembled in China) and are of great value due to their price points. I have the Barista Express and had an issue with the low temperature hot water at the extraction (175-180 degree average) head and Breville ended up sending me a replacement and the machine has been working "perfectly" for the past 6 months (brew temperature is around 190 degrees; makes a world of difference in freshly freshly ground and brewed beans).

Breville's customer service is top-notch and very helpful. The only "downside" of their customer service department is the wait time. When I called, 100% of the time, I received a recording where it's best to leave your phone number and calls are returned between 45 - 90 minutes. So, you'll have to be "ready" when they call back. They are quite helpful and very fair from there.

Breville refurbished machines are excellent, but with such a small price difference I'd recommend going new.

Honestly, I can't justify the hefty price tag with Bambino plus. The former "the bambino" is just as good. There are only small differences.
The reviews also show not much of a difference. If you don't want to go big with the barista express, you can wait for a deal on The Bambino.

I bought the Barista Express 3 weeks ago at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% coupon and it worked.
Any tips on getting BBB to let you use the 20% coupon?

Did anyone tried to get the coupon to work in store? Or just over the phone?

Just go to Bedbathandbeyond.com and sign up to receive coupons. Should ask you at bottom of page if you want a coupon:
https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/

The coupons will not work online for these machines but you can try calling and speaking with a rep to see if they will apply it for you. It worked for some people.

Should I pick these expensive China made espresso machines instead of the cheaper Italy made ones ?

Going with the Gaggia means you also have to buy a grinder. An entry level conical burr grinder (Bodum) will be around 60 bucks iirc. Fancier ones will run a couple of hundred or more. So need to factor that in vs. e.g. the Barista Express

edit. my bad, the Gaggia is a superautomatic

Plus has a bigger water reservoir, metal vs plastic tamper, and a MUCH better frothing system. Even if you don't use the "auto-froth and clean" feature found on the plus, just the wand itself is better (4 hole vs 1).

Obviously if you don't plan on doing any frothing, ever, the base model is a better value as the pump and heating mechanism is the same in both.

I have a Rancilio Silvia and really love it, but I was heavily considering the Gaggia Classic Pro. They're both semi-automatic machines. You will also need a grinder though if you go that route. I picked up a Eureka Mignon Specialita from espresso coffee shop. Cheapest electric burr grinder recommended for espresso is probably $200+, so gotta factor that in when considering the Gaggia.

Did you have to send back the old one?

Generally speaking, every coupon I've ever gotten from BBBY specifically excludes Breville brand equipment (along with 3/4 of the rest of the store), and when browsing online Breville items have the "Excluded from coupons" tag.

I've never been able to successfully apply a 20% off coupon to a Breville item, even asking nicely.in person. They just say it's excluded and decline to apply the coupon.

Anyone care to share any tips?
