So, here's my 2c from a water treatment professional.

This filter is pretty good. It will remove chlorine, iron, sulfides (if your well smells of rotten eggs, this will help) and particulates (suspended solids).
What it will NOT do : remove lead, reduce TDS (total dissolved solids)
The KDF media inside this filter is designed to use redox (reduction-oxidation) chemistry to remove or reduce chlorine, hydrogen sulfides, iron and also aid in the removal of some bacteria - although this last point is, to me a little more spurious.
The carbon block in the filter will effectively remove chlorine. If all you want to do is remove chlorine, there are much less expensive ways of doing it - with a 10" filter housing and a carbon filter.
If you want to go all out and remove 95%+ of the dissolved solids in your water supply, then you need RO. The zerowater type filtration systems are just a deionizer resin that strips out all ionic species in water. It doesn't do anything for organics (which are not ionic) or bacteria.
However - here's the disclaimer - if you take out the chlorine in your water supply, you are removing the chemical that is designed to keep your water microbiologically safe. For this reason, certain healthcare facilities (including the VA) have banned carbon filtration on drinks and ice machines to prevent things like legionnaire's disease. If you want to remove chlorine, site the filter as close as possible to the tap from which you want to take the water. Long runs of tubes containing dechlorinated water (like in a fridge supply or ice machine) are paradise for bacteria and without chlorine, they will continue to grow and your water will become unsafe.

Hope this helps y'all
If you care about water quality it's worth it to buy an under-sink reverse osmosis system. Waterdrop actually makes very good tankless systems--I've had mine for about a year and it's great. Had my water tested after and it removes literally everything: fluoride, nitrates, chlorine, etc.
It depends on individual case, if your city water is good and then you dont need RO system. I had RO for a year and whole family started complaining about regular stomach pain, we removed the RO and replaced it with this under sink filter, everything is fine now....If you need RO then make sure you read about how to add few minerals back into your diet as RO filters out everything.

Has anyone hooked this up to use for their fridge Ice/Water? Or, have any recommendations/experience setting up a Reverse Osmosis to the fridge?

We use Waterdrop filters in our fridge and they're fantastic. I haven't used this specific setup

This sounds great. I'm going to replace my countertop filter. 16000 gal/24 month replacement and only $29 for the replacement filter.

Yes... Originally tried to find adapters / fittings to connect directly to wall / fridge, after many stops to hardware store I gave up. I ended up snipping the existing line to the fridge and you can just push each side into the filter holder and they lock in place. Took 5 mins. The water tastes so much better than unfiltered tap. I did a blind taste test and was shocked I knew which was tap from the smell alone (chlorine). Water from this has a bit of a taste compared to bottled , but in the end pretty damn good.

It took a few days for the air and bubbles to work themselves out, but everything is good to go now.

Interesting - they claim to filter effectively, but don't reduce total dissolved solids? How?

ONLY reverse osmosis or a water softener can reduce TDS. This will pull out lead, chlorine, etc. But it will in no way "soften" the water.

Edit: Based on a new comment from another poster below, this WILL filter lead, but due to rona' the NSF has a backlog of certifications so this filter has yet to be certified. The certification is pending and there is no reason it should fail. This filter is very similar to all of the other coconut husk charcoal filters Waterdrop makes.

Looking at the pictures, this just hooks up to the main tap? Could it work on a side tap? I don't think I need filtered water when cleaning dishes or rinsing the sink.

Even the best city water still has traces of contaminants, especially with how common it is to add fluoride and chlorine. That's interesting though, my family hasn't had any stomach issues despite us not having a remineralizer in our system. For those curious, most brands have a small add-on tank you can buy to replenish any lost minerals.

it's not clear that this removes lead. If you look closely at the packaging and statements, they clearly don't mention "LEAD" anywhere. it sounds suspicious

looking on their website, they do have some filters that are NSF lead certified. But this one doesn't seem to be.

I installed this a few months ago under my sink that I use when making coffee/espresso and for big ice cubes for cocktails. Big improvement in taste and the install was super easy. Highly recommend.
