Theyve had this refurbish before for under $100 sometimes and I picked it up last time. Works great and I've been using it as a second monitor with a MacBook pro for wfh since this year started.

You don't need a thunderbolt port exactly. Just a USB c that has displayport alt mode.

Lots of warnings in the Amazon ratings that this will only work directly connected to a ThunderBolt port. Adapters apparently do not work.

And now, for a Slickdeals throwback:

"No HDMI"

This seems like a good price in general, but the fact that there is no HDMI means you have to get an adapter if you want to use it with the Switch dock or other devices.

Target has it for $89: https://www.target.com/p/acer-pm1...A-79695646
Just bought it two weeks ago. Works great as I need to work in the living room sometimes where I can't really set up a normal monitor

Any recommendations for a cheap option that would work with pis?
IDK what's considered cheap but this has mini HDMI in. Depending on your RPi, could go from micro HDMI to mini HDMI. Just need an external power source for the screen.

Is it me or did the external monitors that shipped maybe 2-5 years ago come with a battery built in? That seems like it would be a worthwhile feature for a portable monitor.
There were some failed tablet projects by Sony and possibly others that had the branding removed and they were repurposed as portable monitors. Those had built-in batteries.

I don't suppose anyone could recommend a hub that could duplicate(actually triplicate) both video and power to three of these monitors for use in the van?
I really don't think they exist. You can get that many displays out of usb-c, but you won't find anything that'll pass along the DisplayPort signal over subsequent usb-c ports. Heck, it's hard to find a usb-c hub at all (one that outputs more than 1 c. More than 2 c I've definitely never seen). Then you get into "well, I can just output to 3x DP and get a DP>usb-c cable". If you do go that route, realize that the cable needs to be bidirectional (Moshi, Club3D, amazonbasics). See this thread for info:
https://egpu.io/forums/gpu-monito...ort-cable/
If you are looking into an AIO connection at the monitor end that will also provide power, it gets even more complicated and expensive and finicky. — That would lead you down the Wacom Link Plus/ Huawei VR2 cable rabbit hole. See here:

Claims to be IPS but only "170°/170° Viewing Angles". Does this seem right?

Is it my post COVID brain or you can't really call something portable if it requires a supplemental power source?
Laptop supplies power to it through USB.

From Acer direct refurb with 2 year warranty: https://www.ebay.com/itm/274139721457
I got one from them about a month ago for my wife, tested it and it worked, havent really used it yet. I also had found a 10% off code too but I cant seem to find what the code was.

You need to have DP Alt mode support for it to work but seems like thats included with Tunderbolt? I also tested it with my Samsung Galaxy S10+ and it worked but required the power adapter for the monitor.

Just a word of warning, I have this and it works great with my laptop that has USB-C video out, but I have not been able to get this to work on any other machine. HDMI out I didn't think would be possible from the start, but I thought a bi-directional usb-c to displayport cable would work for my displayport equipped machines, but no go.

Tried both of the below and they didn't work with this monitor on two displayport equipped laptops and a displayport equipped desktop.

EDIT: I should also mention though that the three DP machines I tried this with are all older machines. Maybe a spec issue? Or maybe I am just tech-challenged, which is always a possibility. Smilie

Ugh, all these better monitors are USB-C only. Can any of these be HDMI input?

Forgive the silly question, but we have to start with those when troubleshooting--
Are you providing power? USB-C from the laptop would provide this, those DP > C cables won't. You'd have to power it with the microusb separately.

Coupon code is PICKCR4MOM. 15% off brings cost down to $76. Coupon expires May 2nd. I just ordered a second one of these last night. I hook them up to my Samsung phone using Dex protocol which turns it to a desktop experience. Now I keep two of these in two different rooms of my house so that I don't have to move it from room to room. I've never tried hooking up to anything other than my Samsung Note 8 mobile phone, but Samsung DeX on these works great. Display looks good and I'm happy with it but I also wonder if this is not IPS since viewing angle does not look super great

Warning. If you need support from Acer on this monitor, prepare to pull out all your hair. Mine is defective, flickering badly. Sometimes just the monitor flickers, and sometimes the entire connection goes out so my MacBook also flickers, thinking it's ben unplugged. Problem manifested well within warranty. I burned hours on their whole rigamarole. Getting RMA was pulling teeth, but I persevered. Sent it in, and they held on to it for a couple of weeks sending it back, saying they didn't see a problem. I tried it, and the flicker was still there, and obvious. Give up on it--no more time to chase Acer or play their games. Posted reviews with my experiences, and now I'm back to using a desktop monitor, and eyeing the ViewSonic mobile USB-C model, hoping they have better QA & support.

I got one of these in December and it works great over USB-C with my newer devices, such as a Lenovo laptop PC and a Chromebook (both have USB-C with DisplayPort and Power Delivery). The stand is a bit stiff and I wish it had more angles, but the monitor is light and it looks good for a portable. It works really well as a second monitor while traveling.

I am looking into a portable monitor as well. I was originally going to get the Lenovo M14, but I used up my credits on other things, and would not spend
$200+ for a portable monitor.

Does anyone have any remarks on this product or the pixio px160 for $139.99?

I was going to try to contact aafes and order the pixio with the correct lower price so I can avoid the sales tax through aafes/officedepot
