Awesome game. The increased speed over the original on Wii U is a shockingly huge improvement. And Bowser's Fury is just an absolute delight. My (nearly) 6 year old son loves both games, but especially Bowser's Fury because of the complete freedom you have to explore, and that I can jump in and play as Bowser Jr. to help him out.

Full stamp of approval and recommendation for this one. It's a mainline Mario game - 99.9% of the time, that is a very safe purchase.

Not exactly. There's a significant amount of tweaks to gameplay like making movement faster and adding new moves like the dive from Mario Odyssey. And it also adds a few new stages and an entirely new 5-8 hour campaign called Bowser's Fury.

It's hard to say since Luigi's Mansion 3 and Breath of the Wild are so different that it's difficult to determine what a "middle ground" of both would be. I think you'd probably have a better time with Mario Odyssey. It's not as simple to figure out solutions to "puzzles" as Luigi's Mansion, yet each stage is condensed enough as to not overwhelm you with options like BotW.

Mario 3D World kind of sits in its own category of just straight up platformer. It's only as difficult as your own skill in timing jumps and judging distances. Puzzles are mostly some variation of "get to this spot really fast". Though Bowser's Fury does give you a bit more of a "puzzle-solving" element but not as fleshed out as Mario Odyssey in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, Mario 3D World is really fun, but it's not the puzzle-solving adventure it seems you're looking for.

That is an impossible question to answer. The main game is largely 2.5D linear levels like most Mario games. The open world game is Bowser's Fury. This isn't super long, but is fun. So main game, nothing in common with LM3/BOTW. Bowser's Fury is probably closer to BOTW, but tiny in comparison. The entire BF game map doesn't seem much bigger than some single world Odyssey maps.

If you have the WiiU version of this game, it can be played in 4K on an emulator and looks a lot better than this version. Gotta have a PC that's up to the task though. I just can't bring myself to buy overpriced old Nintendo games. Their sales are always pathetic compared to other platforms.

PC emulation is very niche. Also, there are rumors that there will be a Switch upgraded model capable of 4K later this year. Of course this hasn't been confirmed yet.

3d World is one of my top 3d Mario games along with the 2 Galxy games. Bowser's Fury was very good, I enjoyed it more than the rest of the other 3d Mario games (64, Sunshine, 3d Land, Odyssey) despite it being relatively short (5-10 to "beat", 10-15 to 100%). The world in Bowser's Fury is larger than the biggest world in Odyssey.

I bought it launch day for $50 at Walmart, like nearly all 1st party Switch games at launch.

Giving my son a switch for his birthday, he watches YouTube videos of Mario Party demos for hours so I got him that game, which I played on N64... I really want to get this, but I'm broke. Thanks SD!
