It is slightly more powerful than the VEGA 8 Graphics in 4800U and in Photo and Video editing applications, if the applications use GPU Optimization like Premiere Pro, it performs slightly better. However, any editing applications which can leverage higher Core count, 4800U, due to having twice the cores, can perform better. In Adobe Suits, Iris XE normally performs better due to better GPU optimization and Quicksync support.
Soldered RAM. Maybe someone would like to know
Too general a question, but as a brand Lenovo is top tier. Many fortune 500 companies run almost entirely on lenovo hardware.

Levovo has a full product line from cheap tablets to portable workstations. I have had 6 different models of ThinkPad W and P series over the past 10-15 years and they have all been extremely high quality as portable engineering/CAD workstations. I have traveled with them around the world and never had a problem, ever. I have had a couple of cheap lenovo tablets that were underpowered junk. I just bought a Lenovo Duet and am extremely impressed with the quality, can't beats the price point either.

As far as ultra books go, not sure, I have never had a need for an ultrabook. But I have not heard of any class action lawsuits against them, as opposed to companies like Apple shipping known bad keyboards and such on the MacBooks. And people consider Apple to be high quality. How horrible would Apple quality be if they attempted to compete at this price point?

Exactly. 1440p or 1600pis perfectly noticable and usable in 13.3 or 14 inch screen. In fact smaller laptops or tablets like Surface Pro or Surface Laptop, comes with kore pixel densed display than this one.

Has Lenovo quality improved over the last few years? I had one in 2016 and it was beyond terrible.
You would think there would be some parity in build quality between the brands but Lenovo has always been the worst physical build quality experience I've had with laptops. Dell is middle of the road and Asus has been the best. Considering most of the parts are just commodities that all companies use interchangably, build quality ends up being really important to me. Chargers and laptop casing seem to break the most on Lenovo.

Laptops last only a few yrs anyway, so plastic quality is ok in my book. I'm wondering if this deal is fire... Specs look good and I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new book

This has an aluminum case, not plastic

How does the $744 one compare to a comparable Lenovo that was on sale recently for around $650 at Costco? This one seems to have slightly nicer features, like a fingerprint reader and HDMI (neither of which are that important to me). I need a new laptop this year and like the 13.3" form factor. 14" would be about the biggest I'd consider getting, and ideally I'd like to spend no more than $600 + tax and for it to weigh 3lbs or less.

The Costco laptop, Lenovo that was on sale for $650 is no longer available.

Actually that is the exact opposite. Most thinner, lighter and costlier Ultrabooks come with soldered DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory these days. In which angle, you think the Dell XPS 13 series looks like a low or mid tier laptop? They are using soldered memory since the begining.

I appreciate your expertise on desirable specs for purposes such as adobe premiere. My needs are to convert mpg videos to mp4 and it is very time consuming on my current laptop. I also plan on using software to identify all my duplicate photos, which is also a time consuming process. I have a Dell XPS 15 9570, Processor intel i7-8750H CPU @ 2.2 GHz, 6 Cores, 12 logical processors; 32 GB memory, integrated graphics card 630 UHD.

Any tips on what i should be looking for in specs to be an improvement on my current system for the purposes described? This particular deal sounds great, but being 16GB memory and 4 core CPU, I'm guessing i need to look for a higher powered system.

Yep you won't get any benefit from a downgrade to a 4 core CPU like this not matter how wonderful the other specs are plus this smaller form factor will cripple your cooling when running all cores for video editing. What you need is a 5800 or 5900H/HS/HX CPU with a 3060/3070 GPU. Just stay away from Intel completely as they have lost the core count and nanometer war. There is just no hope in sight for them.

If you are talking about this one: https://www.costco.com/lenovo-ide...95439.html then yes it is better as that version is comet lake and this is Tiger lake. I have the Costco version and it's a great little computer with a fantastic screen. I was hoping the battery life would be better but I think Tiger Lake is more optimized and would eek out a few more hours but it's hard to tell. Also Tiger Lake will give you TB4 for future proofing.
Thanks. Yes, that one. For my needs there probably isn't a meaningful difference between the two, but good to know which is the "better" one. I can't imagine a situation where I'd need more than say 7-8 hours of battery life. Maybe a long flight, but they have power outlets on them now and I'd never use it for the entire flight. I like the size, design, weight, keyboard, screen, etc. What I wish they'd add is an additional USB port, ideally C since the one they have is for power, and maybe a 1TB version as my 11 year old laptop has a 512GB hard drive and it would be nice to go bigger. I can always swap it out but that would waste a stick.

Anyway, not looking to buy right now, but hopefully by the fall.

Define a few years. I still use my 7 year old Lenovo Yoga. Less than that is a waste.
