That is what a bread knife is for. This is garbage IMHO. Look at the customer photos just tears the bagel apart.

We used to have one of these in the bakery I worked at years ago. Maybe brand new it worked well, but mostly, it would just mush the bagels down and tear up the insides. Knives work much better, if you know how to use them without cutting yourself.
