Seriously, once I went eneloop over a decade ago I haven't gone back to alkaleaks. For things that need the higher 1.5 volts alkaline cells provide I use lithium. No leaks, no disappointments.

As for made in China, it's more of quality and reputation. So I have THREE generations of Amazon rechargeables:
1. Gen 1 - Made in Japan (rebranded eneloops). Those have not had a single failure and all are still within 90% of spec. A few have had rising IR, but they are 4-5 years old.
2. Gen 2 - Made in China (green/white) top. I bought an 8 pack of these before I realized they were no longer eneloops. However not a single one has let me down and all are still with IR under 40 and charging to 100% or more of capacity. 3-4 years old.
3. Gen 3 - Made in China - The gray tops. These are absolutely CRAP. I had numerous failures and I also bought C grays (5000 mAh) that literally last 2 weeks before they hit voltage limits. I am in dispute on those. I replaced w/ RayOVac alks which work perfectly in my soap dispensers. The profile of the AA grays were not 100% of charge and already out of the bat IR of 50 or higher.
I have had the same experience w/ Amazon on alkaline. The white/orange not a single issue, the new ones are also hot garbage. If I buy alkaline now (for the few that do need them), I go to Harbor Freight (orange thunderbolts) or rayovac which I have had minimal leaking.
I stocked up on Ikea Laddas and let me tell you, they are the bomb. All are over rating and not a single one more than 20 mohm of IR. Buy them while you can (most can get only online). Still made in Japan. So I am good for the next 10 years
