Sorry, but there was never a similar I5 for $300 during BF.

The 11th Gen WERE shipping during BF, but the deals were only on the 10th Gen.
Huge Generational Difference.

The SCREEN on this laptop is actually a quality screen in both NITS and Resolution.
The BF deals did not have this quality screen....

The BUILD Quality for the mid-tier laptops, this is a high-quality build with better chassis, keyboard, trackpad, etc.. etc....

The SSDs were smaller on bottom-tier....

And no....In General, there were not any long-standing deals for any i5s at $300. Perhaps a 5-minute deal, but those were the older i3s....Any i5 deal that was not OOS in under 5minutes for the i5 was closer to $350.

And if you are lucky to have the AMEX deal, then this is only $420....
Blowing away even BF deals if you have the AMEX deal.

No, it is not high at all and in fact one of the cheapest price. And What is that idiotic logic of paying over $500 for a 14 incher? You know, there are 14 incher costing $2000 as well. The Price of a Laptop is not just decided by the Screen size.

But then, based on what I have seen Amex always prefers to give offers to those that they predict will definitely redeem..because in the past I have had couple of offers that I didn't make use of and later they never came back subsequent years even though I wanted to use it.

I just got this laptop from the last deal. Everything looks good except I hear a very slight rattle when I move the laptop around. Almost like a tiny screw got loose and moving around. Debating removing the bottom cover and poking around. I would hate to return it for an exchange since my kid really needs a laptop by Monday.

Opening up doesn't void the warranty or prevent me from returning it does it?

All their offers is done via some ML algorithm. I don't think a CS support agent is going to have any say over that.

Not entirely true. Many times you need to tweet Amex Deal account to add a particular offer to your card.

From what I can tell that is exactly the same other than your link is to a newer part number. Being that it is cheaper, it sounds like you found a better option.
