Lol, this is what people said when the original ATV 4k came out. Fine if you are willing to wait 4 years, but by then you'd be saying the same thing about the chip in it.

M1 seems like overkill for Apple TV.

That doesn't mean that another new ATV will be released with the new chip. The A12 is likely enough to handle anything the Apple TV can do for the next 3 years.

Are they already planning a 7th Gen? 5th Gen came out in 2017, it has been a while for ATV 4k upgrade

Seems to be every 2-3yrs they update Apple TV so probably will be a delay

I am sure they had bunch of A12s sitting around and they decided to conveniently put them into the "new gen" Apple TV. Lol

Like someone mentioned it will be cool to see M1s in these. But again, these won't be use for computing so does it really matter?
