I agree, if this was WXGA or something in the 720p realm it would be a great deal, but this price isn't anything special.

I mean the form factor got me intrigued but as you say at 480p that's not even a consideration even if it was free. You can pick up a 1080p for less than that, that can project up to 300".

Yeah, for a portable projector this has some neat features and design aspects, but just unacceptable that it's 480p.

Do you have some examples? Hard to root through all the crap on amazon that is "1080p" compatible but not 1080p native output

if it says compatible or supported that always means not native.

Yup I got that. The poster above mentioned finding sub $200 1080p native projectors so I was wondering what models they were seeing because most of what I find it "supported " but not native

I have a Vankyo v620 native 1080p that I bought from Ebay for $100, price tanked because Wal-Mart cleared them out for 54 bucks to make room for the v630s. Probably still around that price. 99% of people in a Benq thread are going to tell you to pay the extra money, and honestly if you can afford it, it's worth it to do so. The Vankyos/random amazon ones have lumen counts in the 3 digits, and we're talking 3k+ lumens for the 400 dollar benqs. Color accuracy is also way better. But yeah, for me, I have a Vankyo V620 and it works alright. I've read the V630 has massive latency issues, which wasn't fixed until a ver 2. revision. So if you have a Wal-Mart by you that can ship to you, or you want to try Amazon, it's 169. Looked on Ebay just now and it's 120. If I could afford a 400 dollar projector I definitely would make the upgrade because these cheaper brands have reliability and picture quality issues. But I watch like one movie a week on it so whatever. I recommend an amazon fire stick 4k to hook up to it to handle playback.

Thanks vankyo projector isn't technically portable if that's defined by having a built in battery to power itself though, right? I have a mini portable projector I got from brookstones years ago and it's 480 native resolution and portable with 2hr battery. Was hoping to upgrade that to something equally portable but with 1080 around the $100 price point. Now I'm not sure such a thing exists. Even looking at AliExpress I see mostly 480 native at that price range.

In it's defense it is DLP, which is theoretically superior to LCD stuff you see cheap on Amazon. But I don't have any idea about what technical sacrifices they made to make it portable.

Spend your money on something better.
