How does this compare to getting an UV lamp and an OLED TV to watch beaches in the Maldives?

We do the Maldives frequently and love it. Wouldn't pay this much for 5 nights (we use points), but it's for the best that this does not include airfare. That's a hard trip to make in economy. Keep in mind you'd likely need a charter once you arrive in Male. Airfare can be expensive and even if you're booking with miles, you'll still be paying out of pocket for the charter to whichever island you stay at.

If you're going all the way out there, don't cheap out and forego an overwater villa. Beach villas are great but overwaters allow for snorkeling right out your back door.

Yes, every parent thinks their child is the best behaved, the smartest, the best looking, etc.... Has it occurred to you that some adults see these destinations as adult destinations and are actually trying to get away from every day living, which may include the piercing scream of a child?
Then maybe those people should go to an adults only destination bulb

This place has a free kids club. If someone goes here thinking there won't be any kids then not even their own parents thought they were "the smartest" 🤣

Don't forget the seaplane ride $$$ to the island resort. A few hundred $$$ per person per 1way. /// there's really nothing to do since it's a small little island. Get the buffet and drink package. Eat sleep snorkel drink and repeat. 😂😂😂

I never understand resort fees? Why not just build it in the price?

I kind of get expensive resort fees, in the sense of deceptively advertising a lower price. But $6? You can't build $6 into the cost of the hotel?
Because the $6 is for show. If they simply built it into the cost of your stay then they wouldn't be able to prove how much they care for the environment.

It sounds expensive but it may be worth it. What is the rough total cost for a couple including flight, overwater villa, and meals? Also, any nearby places that you would recommend to make another stop to make it worth the long flight? TIA

yes. we didn't use ours yet. How did you upgrade? miles?
A few days prior to check in, QR emails you (if there's space). No option for points, just straight up credit card.

I procrastinated on the outgoing flight, and by the time I decided to spend another $3K, the upgrade seat option was gone. Prices fluctuate and go up as the departure date gets closer, and as availability becomes limited. You have the option to upgrade one or two legs of the flight. Upgrading both legs gives a discount, and is what we did.

Our return trip upgrade was booked as soon as I got the email, roughly 5 days prior to departure. Return flight had many seats available in Biz class. Wife and I forgoed the window seats and took the middle seats. We dropped the divider to have beds next to each other, and really enjoyed the Qsuite product. Although it's available on both the Airbus (US to Doha) and Boeing (Doha to Maldives), the Airbus was much newer and felt more spacious. Both are worth it. QR calls it Biz class, but the level of service puts American airlines to shame. My wife now says she's never flying internationally on economy.

If you go, there is a transit hotel in Doha called the Oryx. Spend the money ($300ish/nt) for a room, even if it's just a few hours. Make a reservation ahead of time because when we got there, they were turning people away who didn't book ahead. This hotel is bookable via points, or any of the sites like expedia. You get a real bed to close your eyes, a real shower, a place to change, and most importantly, a place to go mask less. If you have a long enough layover, you can even use the pool. Priority pass has a lounge one floor down to get food and drink. Paid Biz class upgrades (vs paid Biz class ticket) on QR don't qualify for the QR lounge access, but then again, you're not really paying the upgrade fee for the lounge.

Reach out if you have any more questions.

Wife and I stayed at an adults only resort called Central Ras Fushi. We chose it as our baby moon destination. Flight over to Male had a surprising number of kids on board. When we landed in Male, again, lots of kids. Not locals, but tourists.

We were happy to have chosen an adults only resort, but just know that families do travel to the Maldives. Maybe not American families because it really is multiple long flights, but if you're traveling from Europe, Asia, Australia, Russia, or pretty much anywhere else, the 16hour flight, 9 hour layover, and 6 hour flight become much less.

Point is, if you want to not have screaming kids be part of your experience, choose an adults only resort.

Try searching directly on the resorts websites too. Often times they will have promotional pricing. We got 50% off rooms, all inclusive, with gratuities included.

You would probably want to spend more time there if you are traveling from the US. Five days just isn't enough considering the travel time and cost.

How do you save this many points regularly? Sounds crazy!
It's a major hobby of mine, so it's something I work at daily. That, and lots and lots of taxes. Uncle Sam gets his cut.
