I discovered if you leave a tiny roller and a shotglass of paint next to the feeder, the birds will usually paint the house themselves. FYI - for whatever reason. carolina wrens prefer a brush instead of a roller - I think it has to do with their feet's grip pattern.
I'm gonna build a bird town with this..
Just a reminder these are not good for birds:

They can't be easily cleaned
They have an outside perch
No predator guard

Search for a 'nest box' instead if you want to support birds, (and don't let house sparrows in!)

Cool project idea, now just have to find a bird feeder that the squirrels can't get to.

We had our feeder hanging on a pole and the squirrel never bothered it. Its the bear we haven't figured out a solution for. He bent the pole to get the feeder down.

I gave up on that. I just feed every critter that shows up now. So far I'm at: Birds, squirrels, cats, possums and raccoons. Probably tree rats too but that is on accident.

I need to know whether this is a joke I'm not in on, or if this is a real thing. I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure it out and I'm just not sure.

Hang the bird feeder high, it should be fine. Smilie

That was the first thing I tried, squirrels got to it quite easily.

Honestly, I built a baffle and it's the only thing that has worked for me. I tried slinkies, and greasing the pole, pretty much everything. lol Similar to this, but theres a lot of guides and youtube vids on how to do it.

I've tried the grease method, which just brought a ton of ants. Thanks for the suggestion, this looks like it can work, I'll be giving it a try.

It's too early in the morning for bird feeder debates. For $3 it's perfectly reasonable to let kids paint it, decorate it, and put it on a dresser. Or give as a sweet homemade MD gift. These posts get way too serious.

Bears never got to my bird feeder, though they did figure out how to open my supposedly bear-proof garbage can.

I like to feed the groundhogs and stray cats that frequent my the property, I even try to feed the squirrels, but that doesn't stop them from being greedy and stealing the bird feed.

Birds around my house don't seem to have any issue finding shelter. In fact, a couple of them made a nest directly on top of my front door's camera. Must be due to the warmth radiating from the camera and it's in a pretty sheltered place. I don't have the heart to destroy it because there might be younglings in it, and they're only there at night. I just have to clean up the bird poop there, which isn't too bad since only like 2-3 birds live there. I'll get rid of it once I know they've abandoned it.

I have one of those feeders that has the bar that shuts off the feeding openings when held down and that has worked.

Just buy a Squirrel Buster Plus Squirrel-proof Bird Feeder and they will NEVER get into it, at least Not in the last 15 yrs.!

Expensive, but you'll never have to buy another and it works!
