It definitely hasn't been $30 consistently. It was $40 for quite a while but then jumped back up to $60 for the past few weeks. The only time the game was $30 was one day at Gamestop and you needed a $15 membership to purchase it. Looking at past deals, the cheapest it's ever gone (for ps4/ps5) has been $35 and that was about 3 months ago.
I just checked the price history for the PS4 version of the game. The lowest its ever been on Amazon was $35.48 in late December and early January. If you got it for $26, then you may have just bought it from a 3rd party that was only selling a couple of copies.
I typically only play RPGs so this was a great way to get me into the franchise. Bought most of the previous games afterwards.
It's also worth noting that the PS4 version can be found for about the same price if not slightly cheaper. It comes with a free PS5 upgrade so it's like you're getting both versions for the same price.
If you have a PS5 you probably won't even use the PS4 version but it's nice to have just in case you ever need to access it later on.
