Did you speedtest it with stock TP-Link firmware as well? I know with some other routers, if you loaded on DD-WRT, you lost hardware-accelerated NAT which would slow down LAN speeds.
I didn't. Only tested with dd-wrt.

Looks like there is no coaxial port for this ,deal breaker for me. Any other routers with coaxial ports on sale ?
It sounds like you are looking for a modem or a modem-router combo.

anybody knows if this is hardware "v5"? Because on openwrt it said only support A7 v5
Bought a week ago. It was v5. Also v5 has only 1 USB. Check the picture. Previous versions had 2 - usb ports in the back. For me openwrt worked well.

These cheaper/older 3x3 Qualcomm AC routers are hard to beat in terms of price to performance. You can buy a more expensive router, but unless you're running 300+ MBPS across a large house you won't really notice a difference in most cases.

Would say this is a good option if you're "cheap" want to avoid a $5 rental fee from spectrum. It's paid off in half a year.

This has been a great router for me. It seems to handle ~300 mbps well, like others have said.

I had to turn off the Smart Connect feature though. If my 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies share an SSID, then my iPhone would switch to 2.4 GHz even when it could actually get better performance on the 5 GHz band. I think 2.4 GHz had a stronger signal, even though it was more congested. I had to create different SSIDs for each band, so I could force all my 5 GHz devices to stay on 5 GHz. But with that, everything stays fast.

One other note: when I use WDS, if I connect it to my ISP's modem via wifi, games get a little stuttery. It doesn't seem to work very well. But I discovered if I connect it to wifi from another TP-Link router, it's rock solid. In case that helps someone.

Someday I may upgrade to a mesh, so I can have one SSID, but for now this is working very well.

Depending on the hardware versions these also support TP-Link OneMesh too. Occasionally the WiFi extenders go on sale in the $15ish range so you can create a cheap, quasi mesh network without going all-in on the Deco series.
Anyone else doing this?
My parents WiFI doesn't reach one end of their house well so I was planning on buying a couple ASUS routers that support AiMESH.

BTW, there are a lot of previous deals on here for this.

Beware if you are buying this with the intent of setting up an OneMesh network.

Not sure it it's been mentioned yet, don't have time to read the whole thread right now

I just tried to set up an extender for a friend who has this router - downloaded the manual and it states that it is Onemesh compatible - however - this is only true in the newer versions of the Archer A7. In the model number on the router is a hardware version. I believe they go from 1 through 5 currently. If you have version 4+ you can update the firmware and use it with an OneMesh extender, but versions 1-3 are incompatible.

Good deal in a solid router. I'm running DD-WRT on mine with all the bells and whistles. The only drawbacks to this router are that you're probably not going to get the full bang for your buck if you have a 500+ mbits plan.
Not sure what's wrong with your setup but you can easily get over 1Gbit wifi throughput. If you have questions on how let me know.

question if anyone happens to know...the WDS Bridging, do you have to disable DHCP? I'd love to connect this to my phones wifi, but my phone will only allow 1 connection...so if this would connect AND have dhcp enabled it would be perfect to share my cell's wifi...TIA

Look at the review over at tomshardware /reviews/tp-link-archer-a7-ac1750-wireless-dual-band-gigabit-router-review

decent 5 Ghz at 535 mbps but poor 2.4 Ghz at 92 mbps (near distances from router)
large drops 5 Ghz at 112 mbps 2.4 Ghz at 51 mbps (far distances)

newer AX routers can do much better and farther away, but this is what it is for about $30

What are the additional features with DD-WRT compared to software it comes with?
