$100 off the usual price. Not quite as good as the $150 gift card deal before Christmas, but stacks nicely with the $100 off $500 coupon.
Best Buy also has it for $1349.99 without the bundle if you prefer the Geek Squad warranty with burn in protection ($299.99) -

It doesn't "cost more" to make 48 vs 55. The way the manufacturing is set up, they cut 48 w/ 77 on the same panel instead of 55 w/ 65.
The combo of 55/65 sizes are more popular than 48 and 77. So supply becomes limited on 48/77, they keep prices high, run less sales, and demand settles where it does.
They can always lower price on 48's and 77's if they wanted to shift consumer demand in that direction a bit, but they don't need to. 48 is fairly popular among some gaming folks and they are willing to pay for a 4K 120Hz display w/ freesync/gsync. 77 is also serving the premium market of folks wanting high end large displays.
Internally, they likely track sales closely and segment 55/65 as their mainstream products, 48/77 as their premium paying market.
I was also planning on a C1. But got a CX 55 from bestbuy for $1349 with 5 year warranty. Also just got the free bluetooth speaker in from the promo LG is running. They sent me a PL7 speaker worth $130-180.
Best deal right now is finding the cheapest CX you can find and then get the free speaker through the promo.
From a manufacturer's stand point, I believe they are able to produce more displays at the 55 inch size than the 48 which leads to lower costs.

Exact same boat. Have we confirmed?
Problems with 1080 connecting to a CX:
1) does not have HDMI2.1. I connected to my CX 77 in living room and can only get up to 4K HDR @60Hz (RGB) or 4K@100Hz without HDR (YCbCr 422). Anything above that is not supported.
I've also seen strange things like in Avenger's game, there are unbearable lagging and frame drops (15fps) when on 4K, but stable 60fps at 1440p, which suggests it's not a problem of the rendering power, but probably some compatibility issues again with the old HDMI interface.
2) no VRR at all. 1080 only supports g-sync on the DisplayPort, none at its HDMI port. So you will need to turn on the Vsync in games to prevent screen splits again.
With a HDMI2.1 cable (works with my XSX/PS5 to the CX), I can see the screen tears every now and then without Vsync. HDR seems to increase the burden of the data rate a lot. But I'm reluctant to turn it off because it's what shines on the CX from my gsync monitor.
With that in mind, using a CX/C1 with 1080 is quite limited. So I'm still using my 38" Ultrawide monitor which supports 120Hz G-Sync for now, until my new PC arrives in July (fingers crossed). I figure I'll just get the 48" after the 3080, since there is no solid date of when I can get hold of it. Plus the 48" sales are only $100~$150 off. Doesn't hurt to wait.
