Most tabs are stabilizing using Cyanuric acid, which you need a little of. But over time it builds up and reduces the effectivity of chlorine.

And the only way to remove the acid is to drain the pool.

at 10%, a gallon of this contains about 1.2lbs of chlorine.

local store when it had stock was listing its sale price for tabs at $3 per lb. but those tabs are 90% chlorine.

IE local pool stores sale price for tablets = 3.33 per lb of chlorine
ACE = ~2.5 per lb of chlorine

Probably has nothing to do with a pandemic and hoarding of sanitizing materials using trichhlor, or that the largest trichhlor manufacturing plant in the country, which produces about 35-40% of domestic supply, was destroyed last year by Hurricane Laura.

How big is your pool/useage to need that much? Is your stabilizer properly adjusted?

I get mine from local pool stores that sell HASA Sani-Chlor chlorine. Under $20 for a case of 4 iirc.

I agree. Even though it it's tabs now all the pool forums are saying it's quickly going to move to liquid because it's cheaper right now

I can't help but think manufacturers pushed the shortage message pre-season to spark a buying frenzy. I have yet to hear a good reason as to why we'd have a shortage except more people built pools last year. Seems like a predictable demand.

I am in central FL. prices in my area at local pool stores are aprox $2 a gallon. for 12% bleach

Place transparent/clear plastic sheet on the bed and weights on the edges to hold it down. With hot weather, it will kill the weeds in couple of weeks. It is called solarization and will find many videos on youtube.
