Downvotes are probably from people who are driving to store to grab any left lol. Good find and excellent deal. Had few available locally so grabbed a bucket to deal with revolting colors on some projects.

Most paints/primers are good for about three years from when it was manufactured so you should not have a problem

I think the main thing that affects water based paints and primers are freezing temperatures. Might be moisture as well if it's in metal cans I guess but these plastic buckets should be sealed enough not to be affected by that.
6 months shouldn't be a problem either just make sure you mix it good before use.

6 months shouldn't be a problem either just make sure you mix it good before use.
I used to keep paint in the garage in a cabinet, until last year when I tried using some leftover to touch up the bathroom, it had turned to cottage cheese like clumps after a freezing winter. So yeah, avoid storing it anyplace where it would get really cold or freezing.

Haha dude, 6 months without even thinking about it! I recently opened a half used can of M.A.B. Floor & Patio paint --> mixed it --> and painted some small tests areas with it. The can was 10 years old minimum. M.A.B. was bought by Sherwin Williams in 2007. My place was gutted and renovated in 2007/2008. So the can was probably more like 12-13 years old. I transferred the remaining paint to a new, non rusted can because I want to keep it for shits & giggles. The paint is ancient, and I'm not going to actually use it. But I was impressed that it didn't smell horrible, it mixed readily, it was fluid, and it went on and dried just fine. I've been walking over the test spots for the past few weeks and they're fine (repainting common area interior stairs).

 Some more examples: I bought Sherwin Williams Emerald Exterior, SW Interior, SW Urethane Trim Enamel, SW PrimeRX Primer, SW Wall and Wood Primer, SW Exterior Latex Wood primer, and Ben Moore Aura Grand Entrance back in 2018 and 2019. This year I've been using them ALL with great success, 2 and 3 years after purchase and partial use. Just need to take them to get shaken, or mix them thoroughly yourself. My favorite is the impeller type mixer that you can spin with a drill. It's fantastic for thoroughly and quickly mixing paint at home. They make a small one (good for 1 gallon) and a large one (good for 5 gallon buckets). It's one of the few things I go to Lowe's to buy, because Home Depot doesn't appear to carry them. If I haven't mixed a paint or primer in the past week, I'll mix it again. It depends on the paint or primer of course, but I have seen constituent components start to separate in less than 1 week personally. It only takes a couple of minutes to do a quick mix, and it'll ensure the paint is in the best state possible for application.

Brand new, sealed 5 gallon bucket of primer, 6 months?? You'll be fine nodnodPeace. As the other user said, don't let it freeze LOL!!! Any decent data sheet for a paint or primer will say that as well.

This. I've used paint that's over 13 years old for touch ups without issues. If I was doing a large area I'd probably get a new can color matched though

Yeah exactly Smilienod. I bought 2x gallons of SW Porch & Floor enamel, and they were able to match the stock MAB color, which was handy. Perfect match. I was honestly just curious to mix the old paint and try it out. And holy crap, it was fine LOL!

Yeah makes sense. The 87% of people who apparently recommend this on Lowes.com must be wrong. At $16.25 this is a great deal even if used as regular primer, without trying to block stains or anything else.
