But if I am getting the 79 as part of the 830 total credit and then they are charging me 79 divided monthly, then i am not really getting 830 credit total. What am i missing here?
They will give you the $79 credit when they receive your phone. That's why you think there is a missing $79. If you want to avoid this scenario, you can do the trade in in store and they can put the same $79 credit towards the down payment, which makes the price whole again at $830 (instead of $830-$79).

Ok I get it now.

What are the chances of being able to get phone rep refund the shipping charge? (currently not open)

They never do refund. Best you can do is get a credit for same amount on your bill.
Basically you paid them cash, but they hand out credit which is only usable on T-Mobile bills. Better than nothing I guess.

One more question.

So the iphone 8 I am turning in is on an account that is already receiving credit for another promo (iphone se). The iphone 8 is already paid off. I want to upgrade using another line but use the iphone 8 as trade in.

I first selected the line to upgrade and then chose the iphone 8 as the phone to upgrade. i really want to make sure they upgrade on the correct line, if not I will lose credit from the iphone se promo. Before submitting the order, will I get to see the line that's being upgraded and the phone that I am trading in to verify before I finalize the order?

Only line is upgradeable. It has nothing to do with the phone, except that the trade in phone needs to be paid off.
You want to upgrade a line that has no EIP balance. That is the main point.

Kept getting that annoying "oops, we hit a snag" error on the website so I used the T-Mobile app. Ordered an iPhone 12 for my mom w/ trade in of XR = free upgrade. Been with T-Mobile for 20 years now so we're not going anywhere. Time to upgrade my aunt now who is still using the 8 Plus I gave her a few years ago.. I doubt it'll ever be worth this much ever again!

I am choosing that line with no eip. But then i have to select the iphone 8 for trade, so I hope it doesn't switch to the line the iphone 8 is on. Will it let me confirm it before finalizing?

If you want to be sure just pick your line with no EIP. Then DO NOT select any of the pictures line. Instead click want to upgrade with different phone, got a different phone. Then just enter your iphone 8 info. That way you separate your line and phone.

Do it in store. They can apply it towards the phone right away to bring the total back to $830. Makes the deal so much easier to understand.

Not sure why but first time I try to do the upgrade, it included EIP pay off amount of $103 but the order was not completed because I logged out of the app too long. I redo the order and the EIP pay off amount did not show up. It only charged me for the down payment and the tax.

On my credit card, it actually has a pending charge of the EIP pay off amount. Weird how the order breakdown did not include it.

Okay, all done. Now the app doesn't work but the website does. You'd think by now they'd figure out how to keep a working online presence. Ordered two iPhone 12's on my account and one iPhone 12 on my aunt's account. Her 8 Plus needs a new battery anyway so this couldn't be better timing to include the 8 in the highest tier for trade in value.

Thanks OP!!
