Pretty sure these offers only exist in markets where comcast has a competitor.

The only offer for me is 50mbit for $69.99 or local TV + 100mb for $65, both on contract. I'm currently on 100mbit for $49. I could even cancel and sign-up on a new name for less. These offers are straight-up scams.

Every year I call to 'cancel' and ask for the same deal again. This is what it looks like when you have no competition.

Haven't been with Xfinity since they implemented the data cap. Is it a hard cap or do they just throttle once exceeding the limit?

Neither, they charge you for data used over the cap.

So here's the nightmare I fear. While the Comcast modems\gateways have always been very pedestrian I have never had any issues with them in 25 years of service. So, say I buy my own replacement modem and then I start to have problems, right away they zero in on I am using my own modem, not theirs. Their support level isn't the same if the modem\gateway isn't theirs. And if I\we don't resolve the problem I have to try other modems until I get things working or end up going back to theirs again, where I was before I decided to buy my own.

It would be nice to have a real world idea of how often buying your own modem works out just fine and how often things go bad and folks end up back with Comcast's equipment.
That's always a decision everyone needs to do for themselves. I never really had a modem die on me in 25 years now. That said, I also have a plan B in place if something is not working, e.g. tether through the phone and I could buy a new one at Best Buy/Staples within 24h as they are nearby. You could also get a cheap used one as a backup "just in case". I agree that it makes sense for some to pay for the convenience.

My parents pay a rental for a modem/router combo and they would have paid it off by now and start saving money but they value the "insurance", and there is no-one around to quickly fix it. For folks a bit more comfortable buying their own modem it can save money, and some 4.5+ star devices reviewed by thousands should be a good indicator that they usually are pretty stable. Personal choice, but the rental fees seem to have gone up.

what type of zoom meeting is that? I am just curious. My kids and I had 30/3 comcast plan and we do not have problem to have 3 meetings at the same time.
It depends if you just "attend" zoom meetings (download) or actually present during meetings or webinars. If you start sharing your screen in decent resolution and want to pair this with say a 1080p webcam the 3 upload will not work well, and if you have multiple people doing this throughout the house you need more upload speed. It might look OK on your screen but your audience will likely have a bad experience. If you are hosting webinars and want to control the setup and assign people etc. you likely want some buffer on top for peace of mind.

Is this deal available for new customers? I'm moving to a new area that doesn't have FiOS and the best deal I see is $39.99 for 200mbps

Think you can also add their xfi plan which includes their modem at an extra $25 a month and you get unlimited data or pay an extra $30 for unlimited data using your own modem.

Thx. Ironically my current provider WOW (Wide Open West) just announced they re adding data caps this week after holding out for a while. Guess I have no reason to stick with em now.

That is strange. I have 400 down and 20 up.

Maybe a misconfiguration. Don't complain. ;-) I would keep that and not change anything.

No. I think its regional. If I go to 800 mbps down, I get 30 mbps up. I live in Atlanta Georgia.

Tried to replicate this deal in Michigan: they denied that they have ever offered 400Mb for $30 anywhere in the U.S. and seemed angry that I would even suggest that they did! Ended up with 800Mb for $60/mo in order to avoid the abysmal upload speeds on their lower plans (5Mbit upload in 2021?!?). I asked the Xfinity agent what the upload speed would be on the new plan and they bury it so far down in the fine print it took her a full three minutes to find it. Hopefully the FCC will follow through with some new standards and force an increase in upload speeds.

Thanks! Got 1200/35 for $70 with xFi complete (XB7 router and no caps), new account in Bay Area.

Upload speed options:

"These are the upload speed of all the plans:

Performance Starter : 5 Mbps (50 Mbps download speed)
Performance Select : 5 Mbps (100 Mbps download speed)
Performance Pro+: 5 Mbps (200 Mbps download speed)
Blast! Pro+ : 10 Mbps (400 Mbps download speed)
Extreme Pro + : 15 Mbps (800 Mbps download speed)
Gigabit: 35 Mbps (1200 Mbps download speed)

Our Gigabit Pro plan comes through Fiber Optics. However, this is the most expensive plan that we offer now that comes with download and upload speed of 2000 Mbps. This plan costs $299.99/mo without any term agreement. You can contact our Dedicated Specialist at 1-855-753-8265 to get this plan."
